Christmas Roundup...

I finally, after 5 weeks of carols, listened to the entire BNL song without crying. This is my all time favorite Christmas song, EVER. I usually lose it when I hear Sarah’s voice. My kids now sing along with me…. “Ohhhh, star of wonder… star of night…. Star of royal beauty bright….. Westward leading, still proceeding … Guide us like perfect light…”

Seriously, it doesn’t get better then that. Go ahead and listen.

We woke up Thursday morning and low and behold… there we (Lola and I) are on the front page of the “Community Life” section of our newspaper. Again. She has been in the paper three times. The last time I was in the paper was 6 weeks after giving birth to Fifi. I still looked pregnant. It was a cruel joke. Glass of wine in my hand, talking to a dear friend, maternity jean panel peeking out… on the front page of the METRO section. Sweetness. This time around I look somewhat presentable, check out Fifi in the stroller crying and searching for a pacifier.

My son will not allow me to open the gift he made me in preschool. Until Christmas Day. "If you open it now, you will be sad on Christmas when you see no presents for you, Mama." It is the only gift I really want to open. Today. Now. He is in school right now.... maybe I will sneak a peek while he is gone.

I have had it with mentioning Santa’s name in threat. It. Doesn’t. Work. The last time I threatened my children with the notion that Santa will bring them ZERO gifts, Fifi looked up at me and said, “Ba, ba, ba, ba.” Jay started crying hysterically, not using any words, and ran away. Lola shrugged her shoulders smirked and said, “That is not a problem to me. I can make my own presents. I don’t need a Santa.” I was, for once, speechless.

Merry Christmas.

That is a really great Christmas song. (If you've ever looked at my profile, you'd have seen that Sarah McLachlan and BNL are two of my most favourite artists. Both Canadian - I told you last week we were taking over the world! Hee hee.)

I've totally given up on the Santa threat, too. All I get in response is a blank stare and ongoing defiance. *sigh*

I love that song! I actually LOVE BNL. Probably my all time favorite...or close to it! I've seen them at least 6 or 7 times in concert. A few years ago I saw their Christmas/Hanukkah show- IT WAS GREAT! Highly recommend it!

I, too, have given up on the Santa threats. They make NO DIFFERENCE! NONE!
Love Lola's response!

I adore anything by Sarah McLaughlin...BNL is a bonus. NICE to make the paper--again! Cute photo!

Lola! What a pistol that one is. She reminds me oh so much of my Jackie. He isn't talking yet but I'm already making a mental note not to use the "Santa won't" bit. I could only imagine what would come out of Jack's mouth.

Yeah, the threats aren't working here either. I usually have 10 minutes of arguement or 10 minutes of crying.

Love the picture in the paper. And you can't really tell Fifi is crying.

Hi,
Found you through a comment on "Lyrics of my Life"...really enjoyed perusing your blog; you are a very enjoyable read. Loved the visual of the "pregnant" woman boozing it up! LOL!!!! Your observations on your children are so wonderfully real. Hope you don't mind if I stop by again sometime...

Clearly the Santa threats don't work at my house either. For one thing Gracie just assumes that nothing bad like that will ever happen to her, so why should it start on Christmas (after all, Santa is NICE, right?), and Isaac knows the secret.

He also has my number and knows that Santa and his tradition are super important to me and that I would never acutally follow through with that no presents threat. I am CRAZY about Christmas morning with my kids--I think I love it more than they do!

Sigh. I guess I better come up with something more effective in the future...

Love the newspaper picture. I had no idea Fifi was crying. You look FAB!

Next year you should get one of those "Elf on a Shelf" dolls. I just threaten them with "Flippy" is watching and he tells Santa everything!! But then when I'm not looking, my three year old just spits at the thing! So maybe it's not working as good as I thought...

ugh - sweet post. But honestly, I'm in need of a blogger hug... I'm starting the pacifier-giving-up-thing with E, and it's so SAD this time... (see my blog). Anyhow, I wanted to stop by my blogging friend's 'house' and get some blogging love from a girlfriend... xo cmm

Such a cute picture - you are famous - I know someone famous finally!!! I loved the Santa threat stories - it's sort of the same thing in my house, except with Alexis - she panics and does anything I tell her to do! Take care and have a good weekend. Kellan

Wow. You must be a fantastic mom if you're taking your kiddo's to events covered by the paper. Sometimes when I'm feeling nice, I let my kids (shhhhhh!) OUTSIDE.

Can I connfess to you that while your blog is really lovely, I find myself coming back more and more simply because you're smokin' hot?

Is that too far?

I don't care...it's true!

Merry Christmas!
