The WHAT IFS in life...

We have been keeping a secret for 9 weeks. We haven't told our friends or even our parents.

We feel so blessed having three wonderful children. But something is missing. My husband and I have sat up many nights talking. Discussing. Wondering.

"What if?"

The "What if?" conversations turn into those of finance and responsibilty. Another mouth to feed. More sleepless nights ahead. What would happen to our plans for traveling the world?

The nights have turned into days and finally we just went ahead and did it. Who wants to live life with regrets? Because... what if? So. We. Did. IT.

And.

One hour later.

Our family was complete.

Meet the newest member of the OHmommy family. Hunter. A 9 week old dauschund.
Who could say NO to this face?

Who could say NO to this face?

Who could say NO to this face?

Who could say NO to this face?

Who could say NO to this face?
.
We couldn't. We didn't.
.
We drove out to the country and passed by many dilapidated porches adorned with Confederate flags. We flew by an Amish buggy and a yard full of chickens and cats. We waved hello to a toothless farmer chasing his turkeys. We heard Hunter's farm miles away.
.
Alone with three children in tow I parked the car and let the kids out into their heaven. Six dauschunds, four chihuahuas, two wild turkeys, a boat load of barn cats, a litter of puppies born nine weeks ago, and another litter born two weeks ago. The lady in charge had a long mane of gray hair and smelled like a barn. My stillettos were digging into the gravel driveway.
.
"Welcome, come in." She ushers us into her home. The dogs immediately corner us and start barking.
.
"Wow. What a nice place to live. Kiddos, I bet you never want to leave. Right?" I try to make pleasant conversation when infact I might throw up from the smell in the house. Have I mentioned I am not an animal lover? I am not.
.
"This place STINKS, Mama. It SMELLS." Jay says out loud, before I can silence him, in front of the Dauschund whisperer. This fieldtrip to the country. This puppy. This pet is all for him. He wanted a brother.

Mrs. Gray took a fleece blanket and started rubbing it all over the dogs so that Hunter could be comforted by the scent of his home. Vomit! As we were driving home, I called Mr. OHmommy. He informed me you can't wash a puppy for some days. Vomit! Should have gotten the cat we had already named John from the county rescue center. He did not smell like vomit. Vomit!
.
My children, fortunately, are filled with love for Hunter and are unable to smell. Hunter refused to nap in his new doggie bed and spent the entire day on Jay's lap. Jay blissfully stroked him for hours as he drifed in and out of sleep. Fifi crawled after him yelling "Mama... maaammmaaa..." And Lola, started coming up with names for our third dog, HER DOG. "When I am 5 and a half, like Jay, I will have a dog named Diamond. No it will be Happy. No, no, okay, maybe it will be Freckles."
.
However, I think our family is perfectly complete for now. I have no visions of letting my hair go gray admist sixteen dauschunds. That vision does NOT include classy stillettos.

I thought maybe baby? but puppies are almost as good....almost. He's so cute!

Oh girl, you're in for it. Personally, I'd take a baby over a puppy any day. Babies aren't mobile for a few months.

But, dang, if he isn't cute.

Too cute. You definitely get the parents of the year award. My kids are so deprived. I am not an animal person at all. So far they've bought the excuse that Mommy is allergic to animals...

Congrats on the new addition! Let's just hope that Hunter fails to appreciate your finer taste in shoes!

Cute puppy! I keep telling Goosey she can get a puppy as soon as she gets her own house. Am I a fun hater, or what?!?!

You were scaring me. I thought you were going for the ultimate chaos..4 Children.
Awe, a puppy! My brother has two dachshunds, his in-laws have four of them. They are addicting little dogs to own.

Have fun with your puppy.

By the way, I tagged you for a meme. Totally no pressure, though. It's a fun one, so I thought you might enjoy doing it. I won't be offended if you choose to opt out.

What a cute puppy! It's hard when they are new and so unsure of their surroundings. Your kids are so lucky! My parents keep our dog because of our job that takes us away every week. Enjoy these moments! Don't worry, the smell will pass. But I know what smell you are referring to. Yuck.

Cracking up! Congrats on Hunter. You're such a great mommy, not being an animal person yet sucking it up for your kiddos. That's awesome.

What a cute puppy! We are suckers for dogs, too. My husband took our girls to the humane shelter last Sunday to "visit" the doggies and take them some treats and I told him not to bring another dog home! (We have two already.)

Love your blog...I popped over from Lisa's (Life With Our Little Ladies.)

Cute dog! My sister in law recently got a puggle and my hubby went mad over it. NO.DOGS! My only rule for dogs is either I don't have them or it stays in the backyard where I don't have to see it, smell it, hear it, feed it, or have midnight wakings for it to pee. A dog would totally be hubby's responsibility! I'd prefer a cat any day but since I have kids now, I don't want the extra mouth to feed or the extra responsibility. You're brave!!! And I just realized that sounded really selfish.... :o)

Oh sweet baby. I want to cuddle that little guy up to my cheek and give him little kisses. Right after he is allowed that first bath that is. :)

That puppy is so cute! The kids look so happy! Having a new puppy is so much like having a new baby! Enjoy the pup!

I was punked. LOL

Congrats on the new puppy!!!!

And I thought maybe there were little baby pitter patters in your future! Ha. What a cute puppy. You are much better than I am. My children Really really want a puppy, but I don't want the responsibility of one quite yet. I like my freedom to leave the cat. I think if they gave me the faces your children did, then it would be very hard to say no. Have fun!

I am in love! I am the owner of 2 wieners myself - don't blame you for falling in love with that face. Anyone that could resist a dixie puppy is NOT someone I'd want to meet!

Ewww! How disgusting. We were never allowed animals in the house growing up. My mama wouldn't allow it. There are few excuses for not being CLEAN!

They make fresheners for dogs.. try that.. but I think I'd just give the puppy a mild-tearless shampoo ANYWAYS!

ADORABLE PUPPY!

Beth from the Funny Farm said...

Oh.. and disgusting about the smell.. not the animals in the house.. I have two -lol- a dog and a cat...

along with 3 children... just shoot me! (laughing!)

How sweet! I'm sorry he smells like vomit though! Ack!

Go to Taget, in the pet area, there is a citrus spray that you can spray on pets when they stink and you can't give them a bath. It's like $3 and it smells good. It is not harmful at all, so it should be fine for the pukey puppy!!!

Ah...the joys of parenthood. Doggy parenthood that is...I gave in this last year to and now we are the proud owner of a a 5 month old Golden Retriever. He is ginormous. And he stinks. And he's hyper. I don't like him.

But the kids do. :0)

i adore you but...i think you're nuts...NUTS for getting a dog! but, then again...you read my post...you know how i feel about dogs! but, then again...your dog isn't going to grow to be 90 pounds and able to stick its head in a toilet. and...it's so so so stinking cute...you're right, how can you say no to that face!!
just like babies...they are so cute when they are small...then, they grow up...
i heart you! i love how decriptive you are in your writing!

That puppy is adorable! Chris and I have been wanting a dog for a couple years, but now we are waiting till our baby-to-be is old enough to enjoy it, like your kids. Still, PUPPY ENVY! Your kids look so happy!

Awww, he is such a cute doggie!!! No wonder you couldn't resist ... and he is one lucky dog, by the way, to join your loving family.

The kids are bugging us big time for a puppy...I'm also not an animal lover much, but hubs grew up with dogs. I have a feeling I'll be feeling more pressure soon.

I'm a snake too, BTW, which confirms that I'm a WHOLE lotta years older than you are LOL!!

I'm new to your blog by way of Amy. Just thought I'd stop and say hello! Contrats on the new addition to the family! I don't know who's more adorable, your children or the puppy! Their expressions really say it all, don't they? (and I love the fact that you wore stillettos to a farm!) Hope you got the mud off!
