The THIRD child

Dear third child of mine,

I am so sorry. Really, I am. Two entire hours of watching your sibling's gymnastics classes proved to be exhausting. You passed out in the car. Again. I placed you asleep on the floor, in your jacket and shoes, because I did not want you to nap for long. It was just too close to bed time and I didn't want to jeopardize our night time ritual.

We all walked around you, not very quietly, hoping you would wake up amidst the chaos. Lola and I prepared dinner and Jay built legos beside you. And you slept. And slept. Oblivious to it all.

Not in my wildest dreams would I have left my first born on the floor, in his shoes, surrounded by filth (I was able to photoshop the crumbs) asleep for a nap. But you, my third child, looked so incredibly peaceful.

I just hope that the old saying, "What doesn't break you, makes you stronger" holds true to you, my sweet Fifi.

Love,
Mama

Must. Eat. Fifi. Cheeks.

She's so darn cute :) I do let my firstborn sleep on the sometimes not sparkling (heh) clean floor. I wonder what kind of treatment my third child might get? Left outside with the dogs? Hmm...maybe I should only have one.

I love it. *this* much.

OMG, these pictures are priceless. She is just way to cute. You are lucky she can sleep through anything.

Kristen said...

Oh my goodness, that is just the cutest picture of Fifi!

Sounds like she is a great baby who is easy going and obviously able to sleep anywhere.

What a lucky Mommy you are!!

Cutest thing ever. A living doll.

Danielle said...

Ah, to be able to sack out just about anywhere. When do we loose that ability? I mean, sure you can get there imbibing mass quantities of alcohol but that is generally frowned upon.

Danielle said...

Oh and your Fifi, adorable!

those CHEEEEEKS...so cute!

So it is true the 3rd can sleep through anything? She looks so angelic. And, kudos on your Photoshop skillz.

Looking at this picture makes me wish I was pregnant again.

Where's my husband....

Mama Smurf said...

Amazing the things we do with our third that we wouldn't have been caught dead doing with our first.

Oh, to be a kid again....I'd love to have been able to do that on my classroom floor yesterday.

Sweetness.

She just looks so cute!
I love the belly!!!

Haha, too cute. Don't you love that when you want them to be awake they sleep peacefully on the floor with their coats and shoes and chaos all around BUT when you put them to bed at night in their cozy jammmies and the house is silent they just don't want to sleep? I also use the line "what doesn't break you makes you stronger" but I am usually referencing myself, lol.

Irene said...

Oh my, that is so SWEET!!!!!

But isn't it true - when you want them to wake, they won't, when you want them to sleep, they won't.

Stephanie said...

Priceless. I love that photo. I want your camera too. I can see the difference big time!

It's amazing they can sleep anywhere isn't it? It still amazes me...

Hopefully she still kept her nighttime schedule!!

Soooo cute!!

I could only wish that my first born would sleep anywhere but a crib!

Shoot, I wish I could sleep like that. Fifi looks like an angel!

This is precious! You must have some great photo albums for your kids.

Those pictures are too cute! You are such a smart OHmommy for taking them while she was in such a sweet slumber.
I know EXACTLY what you mean about the difference in the first born and the third.
You are a lucky OHMommy. None of my sweet children napped and when they did they were startled by the slightest sound. Count your blessings!!!

Flea said...

How in earth was that a bad thing? What an adorable child!!!

Aww she looks so happy and peaceful. Isn't it funny how our "standards" slide a bit by number three. No harm done there...she looks as happy as can be.

Kat said...

Aww. What a good (and tired) little girl. So sweet. I'm sure she didn't mind. It was probably comforting to her to hear everyone's voices around her as she slept.
Great photos!

So Peaceful, I have several pictures of my first born like this. Hope that doesn't make me a bad mom :)

That is TOTALLY a third child story! Too cute.

HAHA!! Guess what I do with the fourth!
She's precious, even sleeping on the floor.

Being able to nap amidst noise and chaos is an important skill for FiFi to have when she goes away to college. Nice work, Ohmommy.

Don Mills Diva said...

Don't be so hard on yourself - she couldn't be happier!

Or cuter.

Anti-Supermom said...

Too Cute. Yep, my second competes for attention with the others I watch - and my oldest son. Somedays I feel so bad for him~

She is so sweet, look at that little sleepy face! Being born third means she will be the toughest one of the bunch, but that's a good thing! :o) Keeping up with an older brother and sister is hard work, and I'm sure she is up to the challange!

Such a cutie. Amazing she slept throught everything. My daughter would have been up and running not wanting to miss out on that Lego action! :0)

Unknown said...

So sweet! So, how did she end up sleeping at bedtime after that late nap?

Katie Ryan said...

Oh, those pictures made me miss having a baby around. Those sweet cheeks, that belly, those tiny feet and hands. Oh, now I'm going to have to go borrow one of my neighbors' babies for an hour or so. They never seem to mind when I come to get my baby love.

Kelly said...

That sweet, sweet girl. She is so precious!! I have to agree with that whole 3rd child thing. I do things a lot differently the third time around!!

Jeni said...

I really had to chuckle over this post. I really need to make sure my older daughter sees it too since she is constantly carping at me that I didn't raise her little sister the same way as I did her and her brother -who is the "monkey" in the middle child, ya know. It is really amazing the things we would never have allowed with the first child are by the time a third one comes along, no big deal at all.
As for Fifi, I rather think she will grow up fine and dandy and these experiences will definitely make her stronger in the long run of things too!

Those have to be some of the sweetest pictures!! There's an awesome scrapbook page just waiting for them somewhere.

What's the old saying.... Your firstborn drops the pacifier and you pick it up and sanitize it before you give it back. Your second born drops the pacifier and you rinse it off and give it back. Your third child drops the pacifier and you wipe it on your shirt and give it back....

Don't worry, mine have fallen asleep on the floor too - they must be comfy or they wouldn't stay asleep.

Lisa said...

She's just too precious. I would have left her sleeping right there like a happy little clam too!

Jennifer said...

LOL! I SWEAR THIS IS SO TRUE WITH SECOND AND THIRD CHILDREN!!
SHE IS SO FREAKIN' ADORABLE!! MAN!!
AND SHE LOOKS PRETTY PEACEFUL AND COMFY, I THINK WHEN YOU ARE LITTLE IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU NAP SOMETIMES, AS LONG AS YOU GET TO NAP. :)
NOW IF YOU HAD WANTED HER TO SLEEP FORGET ABOUT IT! AT LEAST THAT IS HOW IT IS HERE!!

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND... AND IF YOU GET A CHANCE STOP OVER, I JUST DID MY FIRST POST OF FRIENDSHIP FRIDAYS!!

As a third child... i wouldn't want to be ANY PLACE ELSE in the birthing order...
talk about freedom, carefree, happy, imaginative, creative...
that's what you get out of being the third child
oh... and the ability to sleep anywhere including a rock concert ;>

So, so cute. Makes me think having another might not be a bad idea...

And you can do that, now that there is not a puppy around to pounce on her!

One of my favorite pictures is of my 2nd, asleep on his bedroom floor curled up in a ball. I just put a blanket on him and left him there -- of course, that was pre-puppy also and the cat was nowhere in sight!

Cute photo!

I want one of those! Can you fedex her to my house? She's adorable!!!!

I feel like she looks right now. It's been a loooong day. I wish I could just sleep on the floor...those days are long over.

Your third and my third can split the cost of therapy together someday. Although my boy would have eaten those crumbs up before he fell asleep saving you some photoshop time.

OMG...too effing cute for words! I just want to scoop her up off of the floor and smother her with kisses!

Oh, I laughed outloud!

I don't know how many times I have done the same thing with my 4th...

She is very independent though! The kid needs no one to keep her entertained... poor baby.

She is gorgeous. And although the phrase is technically "let sleeping dogs lie," I actually think that "let sleeping toddlers lie" is more apt. There is NO REASON on earth, except impending fire, flood or tornado, to awaken a sleeping little one. :)
