Honestly, I wish I made these things up...

Over the rainy weekend, my husband cleaned out our pantry and re-organized the chaos. This wasn't a terrible task since our pantry holds spices, rice, noddles, canned vegetables/soups, goldfish, pretzels, and juice boxes. I grocery shop sans kiddos to limit their begging and pleading for the occasional bag of chips or processed cookies which are reserved for parties.

In the midst of re-organizing, the kiddos stumbled across a gem. A lonely box of green Jello and a packet of cherry Kool-Aid. Which were purchased, last August, when I mistakenly towed three kids to the grocery store alone. "Can we make these? Mama, can we?" They harmoniousily chimed in unison eager for a treat. I struck a deal with them and agreed to the treat. "When you finish dinner we can make those together."

Needless to say, they finished their dinner in record time and threw on their aprons. I read the directions and started to boil the water. Lola carefully cut open the package, I poured the glass of hot water, and Jay poured the glass of cold water. Together they whisked and mixed and giggled. "J-E-L-L-O... We are making J-E-L-L-O." I plugged my nose at the stench coming from the Jello. "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph... come and smell this husband!" As he approached to smell the horrific lime green slime mixture, I re-read the package.

LIMITED EDITION: Margarita flavor.

Sweet. Actually not so sweet. Anyone that knows me, knows that I can't stand the margarita flavor. Ugh!

I should have poured it down the drain. Instead, I looked into the kiddo's excited eyes filled with anticipation and remembered that I need to pick my battles. Was this a battle worth fighting with two super excited, processed food negelected, peaceful children?

No. Instead, I let my children eat the margarita flavored jello in peace. I made a note to myself to read labels more accurately and shop alone in the future. No. Matter. What.

I think I need a vacation sans margaritas. Sans kiddos. Sans chaos. Buy me a ticket to Sans Souci.

Wow..I'm first!

Did Lola wear her "Bachelorette on the Loose" shot glass necklace while making her margarita jello?!?!

I have a little box of pina colada flavored Jell-O in my pantry . . .

Too cute.
What... no jello shot with the darling Target $1 shot glass necklace? You're slipping. ;-)

I love the photo editing skills though, that is a superb photo.

I despise jello.

Shot glasses, Margaritas, and a 3 year old...a new name for your next blog? ;)

My wife refuses to take our son shopping with her anymore either. He grabs and puts all kinds of stuff in the cart, and when she puts it back, he whines. She also might not like taking him because of dropped a few f-bombs in front of some older ladies, which really embarrassed her. Of course, she blamed it on me.

Mararita Jell-o? Was it made for Jell-O shots?

Margarita Jello? What will America think of next? I've never heard of such a thing, but then again, I've never purchased Jello - I'm the Mean Mommy, remember?

However, I did see powdered Jelly Belly flavored Cosmopolitan drink mix (to make alcoholic slushies, kind of like margaritas) in the store today...nasty!!

It has been...well, a very long time since I had a margarita. *sigh* That's what happens when you have a baby, I guess. Especially if you're a "single" mom (Daddy's deployed to Iraq).

At any rate, you are a good mom. I'm sure they appreciated their treat. :)

I'm with you on the margarita... *shudder*... and now in jello... that's just wrong.

I don't make Jello either. I didn't know they had such exotic flavors. I also know now that you are more likely a TEQUILA drinker not a whiskey or wine woman. Come on.. you can tell the truth... ;-)
**so giggling!**

Good grief! They should keep flavors like that out of the kids aisles. Nothing like getting them hooked on flavors so they're alcoholic wannabes by the time they're 12.

Wendi said...

My first thought was exactly what "Blessings from Above" said. Now- I. got. nothing.
Yay for J-E-L-L-O!
It could be worse...you could've made jello jigglers(margarita flavored of course).

Honestly, I can't believe they make such a thing! Good for you for letting them make it anyway--I'm sure they had a blast!

That is hysterical!!!! My kids talked me into buying jello when they had the flu several weeks ago---we still have not made it. LOve the photo!

Ok, I love Margaritas but in JELL-O form...um no thanks!

krissy said...

Did the kids sleep better? Did they pass out after stumbling to bed? (I know there is no liquor in there, just a joke)

Now all you need is Jay to have a beer mug and fifi to carry around a wine glass and you got yourself a hell of a picture.

Yes, there is a recurrent theme here....shot glasses, margarita jello...hmmmm.

It would have been worth the chuckle to have served the Margarita Jello at your next playgroup with Lola sitting at the head of the table wearing her lovely necklace...just to get a rise out of your SAHM friends.

Kinda off topic, but what program do you use to edit your photos? I'm going to buy one soon but don't know if I should go with Elements or if I need the straight Photoshop or if there is something better....

I didn't even know they made margarita flavored jello. That's kinda funny really, I mean who wants a fake squishy tasty margarita...go for the real thing salted ring and all!

Someone brought orange jello with manderin oranges in it to our party this past weekend, I have leftovers if you prefer that to the margarita kind...Ew to both!

Who makes this? I mean, what's the point? So kinds can enjoy happy hour too? That is a funny story. I totally thought of Lola's shot glass too. I have friends that almost always bring jello when we invite them over for dinner. I make myself eat a small amount...

The Gerster Family said...

UGH! totally gross...it is completely beyond me why someone even invented gross flavors like that. I'll join you on your "sans" adventure. :)

Thanks for the giggle!

I KNEW where these comments were going to go even before I started reading them. Lola, shot glass, jello shots. It all just seemed to fall into place. Someday, when Lola has a moment of retrospection, and she says to herself, "Just how did I start down this path?" ... will she look back to these last two days of blog posts?

Victoria said...

Clearly, Lola could be best friends with my Girlie (she just bought a shot glass as souvenir from Chicago. It reads "Chicago Blows").

Are you as proud as me? =)

OMG, that box was totally targeted for bachelorettes on the loose at a frat party doing jello shots! I hope this isn't your crystal ball...

on the news here in chicago there was a story about a mother who taught her 2 year old child how to smoke a doobie. sad, i know! but in the interset of TRYING to be funny...what are you trying to do, chika...one up her?? shot glasses and margaritas...i thought that'd be the way i was as a mother, not you :-) hahahaha!!

Kristen said...

You should have let Lola drink it out of her shot glass! :)

Things like this are just too funny to be made up, and yes, those of us with Toddlers now the fight is NOT worth it!

Eat up kiddos! :)

Cool photo! I do like me a Margarita, but I prefer Pina Coladas. I don't think I would like this jello though - maybe if it was spiked with tequilla - yep!

Nice to see you - hope you are having a good week. Take care - Kellan
