Out of the mouth of Lola...

Fifi really can not stand Lola. As soon as Lola approaches her, she ducks and turns the other direction.

Lola is too loud. Lola is too aggressive. Lola hugs too tightly.

I try very hard each day to refrain from screaming, "Let go of your sister. She does not like you." Those words might damage both of them. Instead, I remind Lola for the 473rd time that she needs to be soft spoken, gentle, and loving towards her baby sister. And then I watch as she hugs, hooks, and tackles her sister later erupting in obnoxious laughter. Uncontrollable wicked laughter.

The truth is. Fifi does not fancy Lola.

However, yesterday I observed something that made my heart swoon. I stopped and watched the sisters interact for the very first time. I had no Nikon. I had no video camera. I had nothing to remember this glorious event but my memory.

I watched as they sat next to one another on the floor of Fifi's room. Their legs gently touching. Lola was reading the Hungry Caterpillar to her in a soft and gentle voice that I did not know she had. I peeked around the corner to see Fifi pointing and Lola lovingly touching her.

I smiled. My heart smiled.

I had just observed the first genuine sisterly moment between them. I walked into the room and knelt before them. "Lola, sweet Lola. What a great big sister you are. Fifi loves you so much."

Lola smiled and looked up at me with her big beautiful eyes and said, "I am a good big sister. I didn't even fart. I didn't even fart one teeny tiny time."

Oh, Lola and Fifi . . . beautiful. My heart swells for you, too. What a precious moment. And and a bit of laughter too!

I'm so glad you caught that moment. It seems that in this house, all the girls do is fight...but occasionally I'll catch an intimate moment, like today when they were playing beauty shop - painting each others toe nails and brushing hair. I actually had a tear in my eye seeing the love and peace.

My middle loathed my youngest until just recently. He is still uncertain, but the absolute hatred has lifted. I am happy it is for you, too!

I absolutely positively LOVE child logic! LOL That was too cute.

I am glad to know they shared a bonding moment and it did not involve gas!
That Lola is too much!

Unknown said...

How sweet is that?!?!

The boy tends to shy away from the girl because she is aggressive, even at one and he's 3. But those moments when they hug or play together are just so precious!

That is soooo funny. Lola is something else!

Bwahahahaha!!! Yes, she knows what being a big sister is all about.

How hysterical is THAT?! I always find it so funny when the baby is already clued into the fact the elder sibling is bit on the wild side.

Thanks for the laugh!

Kash said...

What is she talking about? Must she really try to refrain from farting that hard to make a comment about it. I would love figure out how ot works. Buzi.

I can only hope I have another girl one day - I love sisters and this is such a sweet & special story.

I love sibling love! My 2 year old boy told me yesterday he only tackled his 6 mos old sister "gently." Gentle and Tackle shouldn't be in the same sentence. Lola will be a good big sister...takes time. Heck my sister and I weren't really friends until I was 20 and she was 25 :)

Crystal D said...

Bahahaha. That is great. They will work it out more as they get older (at least until they become teenagers).

I must be a good sister too because I don't think I have farted next to mine either! At least not lately!

So cute, I am glad that you caught it!

I am laughing so so hard right now. That sounds just like something my son would say! I am glad for sisterly love for your sake. I know how touching those moments can be.

HahaHA! Not farting on your sister...now THAT is love. Wait...or is it that farting on your sister shows your love...I can't remember. ::shrugs::

LOL, I did NOT expect that last line. That is hilarious, and still a sweet story!

There's nothing sweeter than a big sister reading to her little sister and not farting. Really.

That is so adorable! What a great story, even though you had no camera.. you have it emblazoned on your heart and you've shared it here so it will never be forgotten.

Is that not the sweetest thing? My four year old granddaughter says poot. I've been telling her ladies don't poot. But she loves that word and will always tell you when she does it.

Lisa said...

What a fabulous story!!! I puffy heart Lola!

I too am always toting the camera around, and sometimes it's nice to just capture the moment with just your memory....without a lens involved, you know?

This gets MY vote for the "Perfect Post".

And I'd also like to say, any young lady who is starting out in life so focussed on bodily functions (as she obviously is) is definitely starting out on the right foot. Lord help the young men of the future.

Oh, I love those moments....and they are few and far between at our house too.

Just this morning, Daughter (4) tripped and fell. Son (2) went running to her screaming "Chochee (his name for her! Chochee! O.k.?"
When he finally reached her hey hugged and she said "I'm fine." as he rubbed her hurt knee.

It's those moments that help me go on as they are kicking, screaming and pulling one another's hair!

truly priceless :)

I was going to say "oh how sweet" and then I got to the end and laughed my hiney off.

Very cute story.

Well, that qualifies her for sister of the year.

You gotta love that Lola! That sounds like such a sweet moment!Interstingly, Kate is not too fond of her louder, more agressive oldest brother. She is COMPLETELY taken with the quieter, softer, gentler middle one who pretty much ignores her:) That is the one we were thinking of for Lola to marry(the one with the prayer table).

Priceless!

Lola is a sassy one. Just wait until she is a teenager...you're in trouble!!! :)

This story makes me laugh but it moves me because it is so close to my own. My Bug is so rough with little butterfly. Even when he tries to love her, I worry she will break against his exhuberance. But, the other day I was letting them jump on Momma's big bed, and they collapsed into fits of giggles, and she laid her head on his heaving chest, and he patted her little head with his hands, and I wept, of course. There is so much joy, isn't there, in having children?

What a great moment to get to observe!! I love that last part, what a hoot!! :)

Yeah, I just love those moments. Unfortunately, they are few and far between. But when they happen, it just makes your heart sing.

How lucky for your girls to grow up with those tender moments. Oh and the moments of fighting over the bathroom, a boyfriend, a cute outfit, Prom Queen ... whatever it may be.

Ahhh...sister love is the best. And the funniest! My girls are 16 months apart. Love each other one minute and are choking each other the next.

Btw, my husband and I went out last night. I chose between sensible shoes and heels. I chose the heels and thought of you!
