While waiting for Walmart to fill my contact prescription I weaved in and out of the aisles alone. The kids were with a dear friend and I embraced my freedom and found myself lost among cheap Chinese goods.
Need to write a letter of persuasion to Mr. Nordstrom convincing him of the need for a new optical department. One can only dream.
Naturally as a mom of three, I found myself in the baby section, moved along to the toy department, and ended up in the little girl section among the sluttiest of all Mary Kate and Ashley clothing line.
A business man walked past and observed me lonesomely laughing out loud, so I ducked into the little girl's underwear section.
Lola could use some new matjki, I shrieked with delight as I had found something to fuss over and purchase. The last time I purchased matjki for her was when she became diaper trained. Matjki. (MY-TEE-KEY) Polish for underwe@r.
There, among the Dora, the Princesses, and the Hanna Montana matjki were the classiest of all matjki in Wally's world.
Simple. Full coverage. Cotton. Heart quilted. White, purple, and pink. Teeny tiny satin bow. Matjki.
I squealed out loud, out of sheer cuteness, delighted I found such adorable matjki. I grabbed two packages and bolted upon hearing my name over the intercom summoning me to the optical department.
At home, I ripped open the packaging and displayed my goods. I was overcome with delight and immediately switched into "girlfriend" mode. I could not contain myself much longer.
"Aren't these the cutest, ever?" I held them up, so she could see. "Look at this darling bow. And the hearts.... do you see these hearts?"
"Uh-huh. I see." Lola replied. It was obvious that she did not share my excitement.
"They are soooooo cute. Look... you have purple ones too." I tried to sell my delight.
"This is weird, Mama." She said.
Still in girlfriend mode I asked, "What is weird? I think these are incredibly darling. So cute, Lola. So stinking cute!" Knowing how particular she is when it comes to clothing I continued to push the cuteness factor of the matjki. I did not want to go back to Walmart for a return.
"I know. But it shouldn't matter." She replied.
"What do you mean? What shouldn't matter?" I asked, as I slowly started to drift back into mommy mode.
"It shouldn't matter what my matjki look like cause no one will ever see them!" Lola looked me straight in my eyes.
"Oh. Yea." I swept her into my arms and smothered her with kisses. That a girl. She does listen to what I say.

Matjki.
Polish for underwear.
oooh, smart girl. now just keep buying her those cute undies and keep finding ways for her to say that again...for another 20 years.
Yeah for LOLA! Keep those matjki to yourself and your mama.
Thanks - I was a tad confused until you provided the translation.
Awww! How cute! LOL
Cute. But...how do you pronounce that?
Nice job! I hope mine are as willing to obey my demands to keep it covered! ;)
love it...how do you pronounce matjki? just kind of like it looks?
Let's just hope and pray she keeps that same philosophy when she is older. Good job, Mom.
KEEP BELIEVING
Aw... Lesson well learned, but matjki in any language is a fun girly thing to buy.
Did she end up liking her majtki? Even though no one will see them? :)
Exactly! For at least another 20 or 25 years! :)
What a cutie pie!
Good Girl Lola! Good Girl!
Haha! Good girl and good momma for teaching her well!
Gotta love that Lola!
Good job OHMommy!!!
That's a sharp one you got there :)
I hope get my little one will say the same!
That's right. Nobody will be seeing those. Nobody.
You must be doing something right :)
Gracie so showed hers off at that age. Sigh. She is a dare devil in many ways...
By the way, I think matjki might be the cutest way to say unders EVER.
love the angle of that photo and the look on her face!!
you've taught her well. What a great response on her part!!!
I'm the same way when it comes to underwear...
Just wait until you have to go bra shopping.
I shudder at that thought...
Aww, smart girl. No one should EVER see those.
Now that was a classy answer. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Next lesson: how a great pair of underwear can make you feel fantastic, even though no one else can see them.
Too cute! And hopefully she'll remember that for years to come ;-)
Very classy answer for a little girl!
That's so cute. It's always good to know not to show off your underwear while wearing them.
Aww..
Way to go, Mom!
:)
She is a smart cookie! Unlike my middle boy who keeps putting his Matjki on the outside of his pants, BACKWARDS so everyone can see...and of course the first pair UNDER the pants is on backwards...he wants the big picture of Bob the Builder trucks on the front, not on the back!
OY!
Good job - hopefully that sticks with her through her whole life!! I'll remember that one for my daughter when she's older :-)
awwwwww.... could she rub off on my Ava?? i don't want anyone seeing her Matjki's either!
oh my goodness - what a good girl! I probably would have said "I can't wait to show my friends"... but she is MUCH smarter than me!!
You gotta love it, every now and then when you realize they are listening! What a cutie-pie!
And my girls are all obsessed about clean Hanna Andersson ONLY panties (should I be worried?)
Like that name for underwear :)
What a smart girl!
I love that word, matjki, maybe that'll be our new word for p@nties. LOL
What a smary-pants! Reminder her of that when she's 15, right?
i do like the little girl undies they have at wally world. :) I can get a 10 pack or something for like 8 bucks! with two newly trained 2 1/2 yr olds this is VERY important!! plus I love how they fit. :)
I love Lola's answer!! :) Good teaching her mom!! :)
xoxoxo
PS i read your post from yesterday... we all feel that way.. busy busy and even busier!! kids and family and LIFE happen... and if you get time to blog about it...for memories... that is awesome for your family!! IF you get to read some other blogs... for you... then good... but if it feels like a job and not fun any more than you have to give it up... at least some what. :) we all understand... or at least I do.
I'll see you around.... when you have time. :)
HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!
PS... I hope you are still going to share w/ us your photo tips and tricks and have your CCC. :) please!!!
note to self: only squeel in delight when i find cute matjki for me!
Very cute! But if she's like my Punky the whole world will see them whenever she decides! HA!
Hopefully Lola will still be saying this in 15 years or so.
Those are the moments that make a momma proud!
Make her repeat that statement 5x's daily for the next 15 years. Again, and again.
What a beautiful girl she is. Really.
LOVE that, What a smart girl!! Let's hope she remembers it!! ;)
good girl! keep those little undies covered!!
Good job, OHmommy. I want to be around about 20 years from now when her once and future husband wants to know why his wife won't let him see her in her underwear.
Lola is SMART and CLASSY!
grr...i wish my kids didn't care..
:)
HA! Good for her - she knows only she sees her undies. Let's keep it that way for a loooong time right? :)
Oh that is the sweetest conversation ever. She is such a precious little girl.
I'm seriously wanting to make a trip to Walmart to buy some of those cute little undies! :0) My daughter runs around in hers still....so everyone around here sees them. Sigh. Perhaps one day she will understand the whole modesty thing. At least she's only 2 and can get away with it!
BTW...I don't mean we take her in public in her panties. Just around my house. :0)
AWWWWW! Good girl!!!!!
AWWWWW! Good girl!!!!!
Lola is so smart! Great job Ohmommy, you are doing a fantastic job! Clare
Oh that is just priceless.
LOL! Good answer, Lola! good answer!
Would Lola please pass that message on to my children please?? They don't seem to like keeping their clothes on.
very smart girl, that lola!! remember that honey - NO ONE WILL SEE YOUR MAJTKI!
p.s. i didn't comment on the last post because i too sometimes just can't comment all the time. but know that i love you and read your blog always:-)
good girl!
What??? You didn't buy her the Mary Kate and Ashley thongs for preschoolers?
Kidding.
She is just adorable.
I'm so glad she listens. I wish mine did.
Just remind her of this when she turns 16...
So sweet
I think I am going to start saying my tee key, even if I can't spell it. The only other Polish word I know is dupa.
Oh, wait, I also know pierogi and halushki.
What a SMART little girl! Mama is teaching her well! LOL
Lola is so... aware! What a smart little (sassy) lady.
Thanks for your help today!! I'm glad you didn't start saying 'no' to everything =).
Good girl!
I get that same warm fuzzy feeling when I'm picking out cute undies for my little girl...imagine my surprise when I discovered that they sell THONGS in toddler sizes...no I'm not kidding!
PS...I read your last post and fyi I read and comment on your blog because your a delightful person that makes me smile...not for the expected returned bloggy love.
PSS...you're gorgeous even before you shower...that's just wrong...
What a good mama you are!!! That was the perfect thing to say. :)
Well, I'm clearly doing something wrong because there's nothing my girls love more than walking around the house in their matjki! One of the advantages of living in an all-girl household :)
You have a very smart girl on your hands.. but you don't need me to tell you that.. but what I will say is how freaking adorable she is!!!
Kimmylyn
That was so my attitude when I was a kid. I remember conversations like this with my mom!
What a cutie... and she listens to her momma too!
I, too, would be freaking out over that cute matjki ;)
That's a fantastic response from your daughter - I love it! You are a gooooooood mommy!!! :)
