Forget about that Gucci tennis bag I "want"

All I want for Christmas is one really awesome picture of the kids and me that's deemed "frameable."

I am always the one behind the camera.

I have 72 months worth of photographs bound in fancy leather albums; but, only a dozen "photos" of me with the kids within those pages. However, not one of those photos are decent, acceptable, or respectable pictures where everyone is looking straight at the camera. I want a nice picture. You know that picture... that picture of the happy mom with her polished children in the Crew Cuts catalog.

I don't think my wish is at all selfish. I carried them under my heart for a total of 27 months. I wipe more then 27 poopchas each month and have an average of 2.7 sleepless nights a week. I pop an average of 7 Tylenols every 2 hours days to deal with the chaos. AND. All I want for Christmas is one decent picture.

The frame has been purchased and the wall space claimed. More then anything, I need that picture. I deserve it, no?

I do.

Thanks to my twitter help, late last night: Zoeyjane and Sarahndipitea and desireefawn and SingleMomClaire and cafekel and MarinkaNYC and ScaryMommy and mobu67 and awholelotofnothing for showing me how to strike out a word in html(ish). You guys are hot awesome!!!

You're welcome!

Those dresses are reDICulously cute!

I agree - super cute!

And the best shots? Usually are candids! See if you can get someone to take a few shots while you sit near each other at a family Xmas gathering. It probably won't be perfect, but it'll capture the real "yous".

Haha, anytime! ^_^ Happy to help :D

So adorable, love the outfits!! Congrats on your new discovery...

Tyne said...

Yes! Yes, I am so with you on that. I think a great gift that your hubby could get you is a sitting with a professional photographer to capture you and your darlings... Because really, if you hand him the camera, will it ever get done? I know mine haven't. I want the same thing for Christmas- um... maybe I will wait until #4 if born and I shed some baby weight.

Rachel said...

:-)

Adorableness. you don't want them on your wall now, but in 10, 15, 25 years.. they will hold a place of honor.

Love, love, love the girls outfits! Seriously, so cute.

You look fabulous in the pictures. And as always Jay is doing a great job at posing. The girls will come around sooner or later. Good luck!

note to self: OHmommy knows how to do strike posts.
Now I know who to email when I can't remember how to do them. :)
I just said the same-ish thing to Jim. I just want a few pictures of me this holiday. But really all I want is "the one." You know, where I don't have 3 chins and my eyes are open, that one.

Rhea said...

I sent you a direct message about the striking process. And I don't get no stinkin' credit. Hooker strikin', sheesh.

Cute, cute photos! I hope you got one that worked.

Love the pics-too sweet!
Are you holding her ear in the last one? haha :)

Rachel said...

(1) YES -- you deserve a good picture. I'm still waiting for mine too.

(2) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the dresses your daughters are wearing.

(3) I am a HUGE fan of the strike-out. It is uber-fun.

You are so silly!

I still don't have one. And my eldest is 17...

Good luck babe!

A family photo of us usually consists of me screaming at everyone thru clenched teeth, my husband looking down at one of the kids, and one (if not both) girls making some ridiculous face. After 92 photos we're all done, irritated at each other, and I'm beyond cranky... knowing full well that we never got "the shot".

Yeah, I know what you mean... let me know when you finally figure out how to get it.

the planet of janet said...

awww, so close!!

and just for the record, the only reason i have photos that include me is because we had a professional photographer (for my daughter's bat mitzvah... last year).

um. yeah.

OhMommy, I totally know how you feel! We just went looking at lights the other night. I got all dressed up, made the husband take the camera and I got nothing! A Fuzzy shot of nothing. I was so sad. I even wrote a little post about it. How it's always us on the other side of the lens. I just want ONE before he's out of the house!

Lisa said...

I'm with you!
I'm also with everyone else that those dresses are so crazy cute I can't stand it!

Anonymous said...

We ended up getting something professionaly done - it's about the only decent photo of the three of us.
The other answer is photoshop - swap a few heads and bodies around and you're well away!

Scary Mommy said...

It's a rare day that I can actually answer a html question, LOL!

Those dresses are the cutest things I've ever seen, but I'm afraid your gift may e an impossible one. I started my efforts in August and have nada. I'm starting to think that the flawed pictures are actually the good ones though, since they are so much more us, you know? But, good luck!!

Mama Smurf said...

Yeah, good luck with that one! I think you're better off turning over the power to another fellow photographer and letting them give it a go.

That last one made me laugh out loud! It looks like your yanking on one's hair to keep her face forward and grabbing onto the other's wrist to keep his bunny ears down. I know you're not. But that's probably what I would have been doing.

I think that is every mother's wish. I too am STILL waiting, although I do have one decent picture from 1994 when they were like 9 and 6. Even worse, in the 20 years we have been togerther, I think there are 3 nice pictures of me and hubby.

Miss Lisa said...

I totally agree--my husband just made the comment that there are no pics of me--because I am always holding the camera.

Love those dresses--wish my girls wanted to match still :(

Half Gaelic, Half Garlic! said...

It seems like the most impossible thing to get....doesn't it? I am never in pictures with both of my kids...never!!

It does look like you had fun trying though....the pictures are really cute and you all look fantastic!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the girls dresses....drooling over them here!!

I feel the same way! I had my hair done for my hubby's Christmas party last weekend so I had him and Pooky take pictures of me, me and the girls and me and hubby. We are the ones behind the camera and I wanted one decent picture too. We are going to save up so we can go have our family portrait done at Portrait Innovations soon. I love that place but we have not had a family photo taken since Dec 2006. Pookie was 4 and Peanut was 4 mos. I also want to lose some weight because I cannot stand being fat in pictures. My hubby and I are also working on that. We have added a lot more fruits and veggies and taken out the snacky foods.

I love this post!

I showed Mr.T that picture and asked him if his comp could carry Burberry and could grab me a cute jumper....he reminded me of the Burberry bag sitting at the top of my closet.

Those shots ARE your pictures!! Thats your life!! Those are the BEST!

Bunchy said...

You were ALMOST there! Keep trying, Girl...it will happen.

And that strikeout thing is way fun, isn't it???

Kelly said...

LOL I have many pictures just like that. The last one is my favorite.
When we try to get my 3 and my brother's 3 together to get a good pic of all 6 grandkids, it's hilarious. VERY hard to get a good one! Good luck, I hope you get your magic shot. Often they are the unexpected pictures that turn up awesome!

Courtney said...

I am jealous you know how to do "the strike"!

Laura said...

Oh....I want one too...just one...of everyone looking, sitting nicely and behaving...please, jsut one!

At least your out-takes are cute!!!! Love the outfits!

GypsiAdventure said...

Lovve the striking...and yes you totally deserve at least 1 frameable picture. Note however, if santa does bring you your wish, it is likely to be another few years before you get an updated frameable picture! :

Good luck, I know you can do it!

I cannot take how cute the baby is in all those shots.. I mean all your kids are adorable but she is stealing the show!!

And I do not have one straight on shot that I can hang on the wall either..sigh.

We haven't had a family Christmas portrait, or any portrait really, since our daughter was 18 months. She's 19yo now. I think it is waaaaay past time.

All of these pix are fabulous.

do you know how many pictures i have of our family? of all five of us?

and it was taken in 2005. and isabella isn't even looking at the camera.

i'm an awesome mom.

heh.

You want me to come over and take pictures?

Anonymous said...

Adorable! It can be so tricky to coordinate everyone when you have 3 little ones, I know. My boys are big now, my daughter is 7 and she's my baby :). I try to get as many pictures of me with them as I can, the time goes so fast.

Heather said...

I totally understand!

tiarastantrums said...

oh, poor mommy!! Aren't we all in this situation!! Love the Burberry frocks!!

Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? said...

I completely understand.

You'll get that cute shot! You have to!

And, you can always bribe them to look, right? Candy is excellent! Oh, wait, you told your kids their teeth will fall out. Okay, maybe a puppy?

tracey.becker1@gmail.com said...

Oh, Poor Lola. Love the ear/hair pull thing you've got going on there...

I can get pics of the kids together, all happy, but with me? Not quite as easy...

Anonymous said...

I LOVE those dresses...where'd you get them?

And, I think those pics are adorable...you should totally put them up :)

Noob Mommy said...

I know I finally figured out the strikethroughs a few posts back...so fun, but also so annoying having to go into the HTML to do it rather than straight in the Blogger compose section. You know?

Your family is so cute :) Our first Santa pic this year turned out depressing. She didn't even crack a smile...which is very un-Noob Babyish.

Diva's Thoughts said...

Those pics are too adorable! lol

AutoSysGene said...

I was very lucky this year I got a picture of all three of us looking good...it only took a photographer taking 100 pictures to manage that.

I hope Santa brings you what your looking for.

And sticking out words....AWESOME!

Anonymous said...

Your girls rock the Burberry. Wowsers. Do you like any of the shots you put up?

Dreams and Designs said...

Great dresses and cute photos. one day you'll get your photo... one day...

Jennifer said...

My wish is just ONE picture of my children together. I don't even care if I'm in the picture.

Those dresses are ADORABLE. Kinda makes me want another girl!

Flea said...

Good luck getting the ideal shot with your sweet Fifi. I know you'll do it, though!

Kat said...

I hear ya!!! The only time I get a decent pic of me and the kids is when I force the camera in my hubby's hands and set up, pose and approve the pic myself. It doesn't happen often. :(

Stephanie said...

You are totally due a picture with you and your kiddos! That sounds like a great idea! I'm always behind the camera snapping it or bouncing my butt to get them to smile. We both deserve a special gift like that!

OhMan...you have the odds stacked high against you when you try for that shot...lol...nice work!!
You have such a beautiful family...Happy Holidays!

A Crafty Mom said...

I think that would be my best Christmas gift too!! I think it's a mom thing to be not included in most of the pictures. We've had a few recently with me in the them and I look weird. Those shots are cute, but I do hope you get that *perfect* shot you're waiting for this holiday season :-)

Zoeyjane said...

I have the exact same problem. The last really good/okay/not completely candid photo of me with Isobel? A year and a half ago. And she looks grumpy. I'm always the pic taker, too.

Chiloe said...

I decided to be the 100 th follower! Do I win a prize for that? lol

There is worse than trying to get a nice picture of 3 kids at the same time: a boy who hates having his picture taken (who even put his hand in front of his face at school ... ) and a mom who takes thousand of pics ... that doesn't match, right? lol

To get your catalog perfect picture, you can always hire look alike models !!! lol

Jaina said...

But the outtake shots are the best because they show life and personality. Love these pictures

Now do the same thing as when you typed strikethru, but type "marquis" and the text will scroll across the page.

HoHoHo You are WELCOME, m'dear.

I know the picture you're talking about.

I want it too.

But you, my friend, have some winners. Really, you do.
