L. M. N. O. "P" for Police. Please help!

Have you heard those taped police calls of situations that really didn't constitute as an emergency?

"Police. What's your emergency?"

"I'm at McDonalds on 94th and Congress."

"Yes, how can I help you ma'am? What's going on at McDonalds?"

"They ran out of chicken nuggets."

When hearing those taped calls I laughed out loud. What crazy person would call the police to report missing their chicken nuggets? But then I started to think. Sure, it's not a real emergency but maybe her chicken nuggets are really important.

I almost feel like calling the police myself today. "Hi. I home without the laptop/internet for the third day and might be without one for a whole week. I had to sing the alphabet out loud to find the letter J in the phonebook. And. And... I had to watch live TV this morning to hear the weather. My three children might starve tonight because my recipes are all online. And if I can't cook, then I'll have to order pizza and I do that online as well with one-stop ordering. Can you send help? I need help."

Of course, I'm not going to call because I would have to look up the number in the phone book. L. M. N. O. P! I am going to be so awesome at the alphabet by the time my laptop is fixed.

Yeah, that is enough to make a momma lose her mind!! You poor thing.
But I bet your house is clean and your laundry is done. (OK that is what might happen if I didn't have the internet)

I would go NUTS if I lost my connection for three days. I even plan to take my laptop to the hospital when I have this baby...and I already checked, they do have WiFi (thank God!).

If you call the police and end up on the Internet like the nugget lady, don't worry. We won't laugh at you. Much.

My lap top died a few weeks back and it felt like my right arm had been cut off living without it!

Oh, that might warrant a call to 911! I hate it when the net is out...I don't know what to do. I might have to clean!

Our power went out last night through this morning, and I was nothing but lost without my internet. I think I even did a little happy dance when it came back up :-)

(Btw, we love Sulphur Springs! Can't wait for this weekend to get some MetroParks time in!)

You poor thing! I've only been without ONE time recently - on vacation and it WAS amazing! But, I see you're point. You're not on vacation. Now's the time for internet!

Jessica said...

Actually I see YOUR point.

Sorry...it's a pet peeve of mine.

Broken laptops are no fun. I hope yours gets fixed soon! You should go check out notalwaysright.com....you'll get a kick out of it. It's what gets me through the really rough days.

I would simply die if I had no internet for a long period of time. How in the world am I supposed to survive that?

I like how you made the 911 caller's location a tad less stereo typical. ;)

HA! That would totally be me.

And can you please move to Boston so you can scout out great places around here? Your river exploration pictures inspired me to try to find a similar place to bring my kids, but so far no luck.

Oh noooo!!!!! I fear to even comment here for the chance that your internet loss is catching.... Can. Not. Live. Without.

I think I do that every day. I had to give my husband's cell # to someone today---I totally botched it. She was probably thinking "she doesn't even know her own husband's #!!"

I hate when the internet is done. It forces me to clean and cook. Hope you are up soon.

Being internetless is pure torture! But my house always seems clean when my Mac needs a new keyboard or the drive fixed thanks to someone shoving in two or three DVDs--sadly that happens kind of often for me :0

Sounds like an emergency to me. But don't count on the fact that the emergency responders will agree. Hope it gets fixed soon.

LOL!! That chicken nugget thing was hilarious!! Sorry you are without, I hope it is fixed soon :)

Desperate times call for desperate measures, huh? I hope you all don't starve... ; )

Last year, when we first moved into our house, we were told that we couldn't get ANY internet service out here. Even some cable companies won't bring us TV out here! BUH! We had to go to Alltel and get an internet card.
We were without internet for a while...I think it was a month!!
So, I feel your pain on that one. The Library became my new hangout. HA HA.
And, I sometimes have to sing the alphabet to get to a letter, too. Ah, I should have just asked Charlotte. She knows.

I had to go to the library once to post, when the computer was down. But, I didn't know about practicing my ABCs...

I soooo have to sing the alphabet. AND I still count on my fingers *GASP!* hehehehe

It's amazing (scary) how much we come to depending on our Internnetz contacts. I would be all twitchy by the second day. Hope you get your laptop back very soon.

Marinka said...

I can't even imagine. Surely help is on the way, right?

As someone who gets depressed when I watch the news, I WISH more 911 calls were like yours. Wouldn't it be nice if the police were available to dedicate themselves to our "real" problems instead of all those delinquents? :)

OMG...Should I send help...The Coast Guard...The National Guard...Bill Gates?

OMG. I would be curled up in a corner like a whimpering child.

I think that definitely warrants a 911 call!

Thank GOD I'm not the only one who has to sing the abcs every once in a while. It's the damn WXYZ that gets me.

I look forward to your inspirational memoir about living through this seemingly unsurmountable trauma.

I was going to leave a witty comment, but then I realized what's the point since you can't read it anyway!

I don't know how you're surviving out there. And when you put it that way, she nugget chick doesn't seem all that crazy.

Being without the Internet makes me totally crazy. We must have our Internet. But then again, don't take it from me...I'm obsessed.
I'm stepping away from the Internet...

You are always more than welcome to come over and use my computer. Seriously!

God bless the library and their free Internet! I had to use it when we first moved here and couldn't get our phone/Internet/cable service hooked up for two weeks!

I use the INTERNET for everything!

LOL - the other day someone handed me a piece of actual PAPER.. you know, like from a tree?

I held it like a dead rat for a few seconds and simply responded with "Ew...hardcopy..." and threw it directly into the trash.

I'm no fan of non-electronic anything.

I'm feeling your pain. You know if you have a blackberry or other similar phone you can look at "tethering" it to your laptop.

(Or you can do what I do, siphon off one of the dozen or so unsecured WiFi points in my neighborhood)
