Thank You, yes YOU.

Ahhh, where do I start?

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the fabulous women that commented on my last post "My third child DOES NOT sleep. At all. I am tired." I have come to realize that this precious blogging community will save me from committing any child abuse. My husband came home from lunch today, "Are you okay? Are you sure? I just want to make sure that when I come home tonight I won't find you passed out on the couch while the kids are running free."

After (safely) putting the kids to bed at night (I would never abuse my angels, ever), I checked my e-mail and realized that there was still no "memo from God" telling me when Fifi would finally sleep throughout the night. So, I started reading my comments and BLESS YOUR SOULS people, you are the best. I am not alone. That feeling was wonderful. Latte Mom, "an over-caffeinated stay-at-home mommy of two" recommended Ferber's book Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. I so connected with her comment and so many of yours, I immediately logged onto our county's library system and realized that there was one book available. 20 miles away. I called the library.

Hello. I am looking at your website and it says you have this book on your shelf can you check? I ask, still giddy from all the comments and advice.

"Sure. Do you have the call number and title?" The voice on the other end asks.

Yes, oh yes. Here it is. Call number 34836786kjcd973.

"Okay. Ma'am? The title please." She asks. When did I become a Ma'am?

Ummm, ahem. The title of the book is Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. I clear my voice.

"Oh. OH! Yes, Ma'am... I am right on it. Give me a moment I will see if I can find it." She is gone before I can thank her.

"Hello? I have it. I will place it at the circulation desk for you. The library is open for another 55 minutes." She frantically explains to me.

Great. Ahhh, this is so great. Thank you so very much. I let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Um, Ma'am? Have a good night." She hangs up before I can tell her I am not a Ma'am.

I throw on my Uggs, drape a denim jacket over my velour jumpsuit, and jump into the husband's car. I have 20 miles to drive. I turn on the radio ....

"To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven
A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together"

... seriously, am I on TV? Is someone watching me? I sing along with a grin on my face ... "A time to love, a time to hate. A time of peace, I swear it's not too late!" OMG... peace! I love peace! The Byrds are right, it is totally not too late for peace. Ahhhh, peace.

I get to the library and head to the circulation desk. They find my book in no time and I am off as fast as a prom dress. I turn on the car and change the station from classic rock to alternative rock. My mood has suddenly changed! Gnarls Barkley soon fills the car...

"...remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind.
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space.
And when you're out there Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much.
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly."

... seriously, am I on TV again? I laugh out loud. Out loud. I start singing again... "Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe you're crazy. Maybe we're crazy. Probably. Uh, uh."

I get home with a HUGE silly grin on my face. I love how fast my mood can change with a couple of great blogging friends and a couple of terrific songs.

Do you hear that? Yes? That is the sound of that occasional glass of Syrah being poured into a fancy glass.

Do you hear that? Yes? That is the sound of my new book opening. The sound of PEACE. Does that make me crazy?

Wow, I really hope my suggestion works for you. Ferber is definitely not for everyone, but he certainly appealed to my sensibilities. I was hesitant at first because I thought "cry it out" meant "stuff the child in their room and ignore them". Like anyone could do that. I appreciated that Ferber gave me the room to go in every 10 minutes to the end of time, if that's what made me feel better...

Good luck with the book. I'm wishing you a restful night, and I'll check back tomorrow...

It's funny how things work out, isn't it?

So glad to hear you've got a tiny bit of peace tonight and hoping it will continue for you!

I write this as I stare at my glass of pinot and contemplate in laws.

Absolutely not crazy! I'm glad that everything worked out today. Isn't it amazing when just a few things come together how it can change our whole perspective.

I hope the book gives you some helpful ideas and that soon you are posting about how much sleep you got last night.
