Oh... pickles!!!

The other night for dinner, my husband prepared a delicious stir fry of green beans, peas, broccoli, chicken, and added some carrots for color. The dinner was quickly devoured by all.

After dessert we shoved all three children into our master bathroom for a well needed scrub down. Jay nearly six, Lola newly four, and Fifi already 13 months love our enormous jetted tub. It is a very special weekly treat for them and a good 30 minute activity.

Splash. Giggle. Splash. Splash. Giggle.

"Mom?" Jay interrupts the party.

"Yes, handsome?"

"What's this pickle doing in the tub?" He opens up his palm to show me.

"Oh, honey. That is not a pickle." I giggle.

Splash. Shriek. Evacuate. Shriek. Shriek.

Fifi is left. Alone. In the tub with her pickle.
They are no longer bathing together. They are no longer bathing in OUR master bathroom. The ceramic toothbrush holder used to help with the evacuation no longer exists.

Which kid poops green pickles?

Cute story. Cute kids.

Sorry Oh Mommy.. that made me giggle too.. I am happy to report that has yet to happen, though I probably just jinx myself..LOL

Love love love the picture.

That is too funny!

I have to admit that in over a year of bathing the kids together, no one has ever had any "pickles" in the water. I know, I am counting my blessings!

Super cute picture of the kiddos! And great story for them to be grossed out by in High School!

Karen said...

That made me laugh out loud! We've had a few pickles in the tub already.

Cute picture! We got one of those events on film once. Too funny!

Oh no! LOL :) Was it a floater or a sinker? I mean....I hope all pickles were removed successfully :)

Love the pic!

Eww! My son used to poop in the tub all the time when he was little.

Wendi said...

Once again... a poop story handled with class!!!

Wendi said...

Oh... fabulous picture too! Can I fly you in to snap bath pictures of my kids?

Aaack! I hate when that happens! Knock on wood, it hasn't happened in our house in a long while, and never when they are both in the tub together. I love the innocence of Jay's reaction to it - that a pickle made more sense to him than the much more logical reality. Oh, some days I wish I could be that age all over again, just to experience the innocence of it all!

Fabulous photo, by the way. But then, when are they ever otherwise???

Kat said...

Oh, but look at the pic! That makes up for the pickle, right? So cute!

Victoria said...

Lol...I had to read this twice to understand. Funny how one evacuation is often followed by another!

Amy said...

I can't even count the amount of times that has happened. The worst was the diarrhea. I know, too much information.

At least you got an adorable picture before the pickle surfaced.

ShannanB said...

EWWW.... lol. That is great. My youngest pee'd it the tub the other night right as I finished filling it up. All he could do was laugh when I called him out on it.

OMG, I had to hold my nose to keep from laughing! It's 2:30am here and I'd wake up the family! hahahahhaah

Oh my..

Zoeyjane said...

i'd say that happens about once a month around here, but there's generally a pickle announcement before hand, in addition to the pickle dance when she won't let me take her out of the tub. that leads to the pickle joust, when things get a little more physical. then finally the presentation of the pickle, followed closely by the administration of mr clean.

mr clean can erase all traces of pickle, leaving a mountain breeze scent behind.

ohMommy!

laughing my guts out but trying to keep it kinda quiet because i don't want to wake the household, but that makes me laugh snort even more. hahahahah. and then jane the sane's comment made me laugh/try to hold it in even more! loved reading this. hilarious post. thanks for the chuckle :) kathleen

Great picture and also a really great post about the "pickle." I remember the first time my little granddaughter did a number like that in the tub and I thought her mother was going to have a stroke! Initially, I suppose it was the sheer surprise of seeing it there that totally flipped her out. I still don't understand though how I came to be the one designated to fish it out and clean the tub though.

Sometimes you just have to laugh, because kids do and say the darnest things, love the picture

How funny!!
Sad to say I had that happen when I was in the tub with my oldest when she was a baby. We lived in Hawaii and it was hot out, so we decided to do a "pool" party in the tub. Put the suits on, got the toys out, towels ready, got in. Splashin around, having a great pool party and then...

Needless to say that was the last pool party I attempted.

I love the pic!

Stephanie said...

LMAO! Oh my goodness that was a well needed laugh. Oh the things I have to look forward too :)

I guess that is the advantage of having a small child who is unwilling to poop anywhere but in her pull up, in her bed, 5 minutes after I lay her down, every night. Of course this is not so practical since I am trying to potty train her, but oh so practical when it comes to bath time.

Burgh Baby said...

Ew, ew, ew! I think I would have to burn the tub. Ew!

Anonymous said...

Too funny!! Having an only child, we miss out on such pickle sharing fun. I have to take her to a public pool to encounter other people's pickles. LOL That really happen once....she wasn't close enough to show me...but still it grosses me out. You want to soak them in a vat of germ-X for an hour or so after something like that happens.

OH SNAP!!!

Have you filled your tub up with bleach and water a trillion times while running the jets?!?!

Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? said...

Hehe...we've been having that same problem with our 17 month old...I guess they get a little too relaxed!

Funny, though, I've never seen it look like a pickle before. Did she have too much green beer last week?

Anonymous said...

SOOOO funny! And oh my god, I love the pic of the three of them...and Fifi's innocent little face like, "Hey, who left the "pickle" in the tub?" LOL

Angie @ KEEP BELIEVING said...

Oh NO!!! Did they get a shower to scrub themselves down after the infested bath?

That's happened to us many a times, too. I can laugh when it's someone else, though:)

Both of my children have been so kind as to leave me green pickles in the tub. Not MY tub, but still. The "excavating" is not what I call a good time.

I feel you, dawg. Where's the turd picture? You KNOW how I love the turd shots. :)

OH that Fifi!
Methinks she did it on purpose to secure her OWN bath!

AutoSysGene said...

I love that picture. And I think just about evry kid has left a pickle in the tub at one time or another.

Anti-Supermom said...

Even though there may be the occassional pickle it is sooo much easier bathing them together, isn't it? Love the picture :)

Oh no!

This happened to me when I was 5. I haven't bathed with my brother since then and I will be scarred for life . . . as I obviously am since I REMEMBER the incident so clearly 30 years later! :)

I feel for your older ones, I do.

And, omg, there is not enough bleach in the world to make that toothbrush holder usable!

LunaNik said...

Eewww...hahaha!!

That's just too funny!

And that pic...so effing cute!

Master Jack put a pickle in Mommy's closet today. Then covered it with a new pair of my jeans. Got to love a toddler.

I'd completely forgotten about those "pickle" incidents. Same thing happened when my 2 girls took baths together. It must be Mother Nature's way of saying, no more co-bathing :)

First of all, FANTASTIC picture. I LOVE it.

Secondly, I was so thinking the pickle was something else for a second. Then I got it. Sorry, I'm a little slow on the draw this morning...

As always perfectly written!!

MommyTime said...

The picture is adorable.

Our tub has occasionally sported pickles too. Although Son shrieks and jumps out, I still bathe them together -- more fun, more efficient, and, what's a little extra pickle on the side between friends?

Also: Daddy always does clean up. Yay, Daddy.

Oh, gross. Been there & done that, too, I'm afraid. And, being me, I posted a picture for Wordless Wed.

But, I'm having a hard time getting past a hubby that cooks. You are LUCKY!

LMAO!! Pickles!!

My son LOVES the spa tub at his grandma's. Its the only time he takes a bath and not a shower.

OMG!!!! The only thing worse than a pickle in your tub was the SQUISHY PICKLE in mine a couple weeks ago!!!

Soooooooooo GROSS!!!

Lisa said...

What an adorable picture! Is it framed in your bathroom???

My Lulu is ultra-famous for her "tootsie rolls" that she leaves in our tub. Goosey is usually the reporter when the tootsie rolls come out. I bet it's happened 15 times - enough times that we now keep the bleach in the girls' bathroom!!!

Texasholly said...

Nice. We have had the pickle problem here as well. There is nothing worse then that mess...ugh. I hope the jets weren't on. The picture is precious.

Ick! Thank goodness nobody sampled it!

Gotta love those moments. Way to evacuate the other kids. I especially hate it when this happens BEFORE they get washed. Then it's start all over with clean water.

FUNNY STORY!! And for the record, Cecily, it took me a minute before I knew what the pickle was too. hehe

Momo Fali said...

Oh my! Did that pickle resemble a Baby Ruth?

Thats funny...We have had that happen around here.I never knew that my oldest could move that fast..

OK, this is a "non-classy" response, but at first, I thought the pickle was something "attached" to Jay...once I re-read, I realized what the "pickle" really was and still had to laugh!

Jen said...

Pickle. Heh.

This is freaking hilarious!

VerWaynia said...

I'm not sure I've ever seen poop that I could mistake for a pickle...how is it that kids make that connection? I think every brother/sister has to have one of those stories...
