Maybe she is born with it?

Our basement holds five years worth of toys. We have developmental gender neutral baby toys, a Thomas the Train collection, an enormous pink castle tent, shelves full of action figures and Barbies, baskets full of balls and hot wheel cars, bin loads of Polly Pockets and more toys than one can list spewed throughout.

It is quite evident that within the walls of this house lives both genders and a baby.

The baby was quite content for 15 months sitting with a basket full of Baby Einstein toys to keep her busy. Now that the baby is turning into a toddler and toddling along from toy to toy, watching her explore and play is a delight.

Actually. It is like much like watching a gender social experiment.

On a mission, Fifi bypasses the light sabers, hot wheel cars, and action figures heading straight for the basket full of plastic rings, beaded necklaces, and once inch stilettos. Once she carefully selects an acceptable accessory she finds a skirt to match. Only when fully dressed does she head over to find a stroller for her baby doll.

This happens often. I wonder where she is learning this type of gender role play.

Yes, I wonder indeed. Especially the part about the shoes ;)

Oh she is just so CUTE!!!

So, is the shoe thing genetic?? I wonder. :)

I'm not the gambling type, but I'd be willing to bet that she got these genes from her Momma! She looks absolutely adorable!!

Oh Fifi! You have such a fabulous teacher! :)

So I think she looks just like you, minus the dark hair of course. Do you think so?

Beth Cotell said...

I think you are right...they are born with it. Girls naturally gravitate to girly toys. It's just nature.

And can I just say...her little chubby toddler legs are absolutely adorable!!

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all.

Ry and Kyle are sad that she is passing up the light sabers for heels. They'd like another Jedi to play with.

A chip of the ole block! So is my daughter and I LOVE it!

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. You must be thrilled.

I hear ya. Though my daughter will be dressed to kill, and then actually try to SHOOT you with a water gun... All while rocking her baby.

I know exactly where the fashion sense came from, I am curious to know who taught her how to put a baby in a carriage though!

Lisa said...

Hmmm....like mother like daughter, huh? (Although, I do hope you get your skirt out of your panties most of the time....)

I've wondered the same thing, because mine truly wants "boy" things. When you write your thesis, lemme know.

This is so adorable! I think this could be a little of both - nature and nurture. After all, she also has an older sister.

Look at those little legs on her - adorable! Mine acquired a doll this weekend and has been feeding it. I wonder the same thing...

LOL! As long as she's not beating it. :p

What a cute photo! What a cutie pie!

Our house is very similar - I have 2 boys (3 and 4 yrs old) and a little girl of 15 months. While she still loves all the trucks and trains, she is pulled towards the pink and girlie! She loves playing with dolls. It certainly is a gender social experiment as we try to just give options.

Sure is fun with both genders in the home.

Thanks for sharing.

Very cute! I think to an extent they are born with it, but she's watching her sister and her mommy, too! Hubby told Punky to take her baby for a walk yesterday while they were outside and he turned his back for a second and she was half way down the street. He said she certainly did what she told him to do! Luckily, we don't live on a busy street!

Meg said...

i hope she didn't learn how to properly put baby in the stroller from you...must have been mr.Ohmommy. hee hee!
she is getting soooo big, i have to come for a visit!

Isn't it funny how kids just KNOW? My son made vroom noises before he could even talk. My daughter LOVES to play dress up and be a mommy to her dollies. It's interesting to watch, isn't it?

I love how you do those photos, with the black and white. What a great effect. But I love even more that FIFI is following her godmother's footsteps!

Yep, I posted something about this a bit ago too. It's in her blood, watch out OHmommy~ :)

It's odd, isn't it? In our case I really wonder what is going on because the Toddler spends hours and hours playing in her toy kitchen, cooking up all sorts of fantastic plastic recipes. I haven't cooked anything resembling a real meal in months, nay, years. It must be in their blood because it sure isn't learned behavior.

She loves her Momma! What a cutie, I love the necklace and skirt...could have pulled those out of our house...they are everywhere!

What a cutie--I had no idea they made one inch stillettos of the plastic variety :0
It's weird all four of my kids are equal opportunity players--all love the cars and the dollies.

Like mother like daughter, both fabulous!

Mimicry is fabulous!
Monkey is obsessed with 'vroom vrooms' but he also has his very own baby doll and he steals sister's stroller, and wears her necklaces all while playing with footballs and 'vroom vrooms'
Part daddy, part big sister :-) LOL.
That picture is so precious!
She is so precious!!

But does Jay don the tutus and beaded necklaces? 'Cause I wanna see a picture of that.

So .. is the doll supposed to represent baby after Mommy's had too many martinis?

LunaNik said...

Well, come on, she couldn't have gotten it from you. I mean, you're so...butch. ;)

Tee-hee-hee.

Like that ol' saying says...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Could she be any cuter?
Seriously?
She is definitely YOUR daughter!
Jewelry, cute clothes, and stilettos,
yup, that is YOU!!!

Little girls are so adorable. Great photo too.

Everyone tried to make my daughter into a tomboy, but we have the biggest princess ever!

What a fantastic picture!

It is very hard to see where she could get the gender ideas ;)

I was the opposite, though: I LOVED boy toys! Granted, by the time I was 5ish I was back into the "girly" stuff (barbies and the like) but before then and after age 10 I was definitely a Tom Boy.

Oh how I wish CA houses had basements! (I'm sure some do, it's just not very common).

Fifi is adorable. I love watching little girls dress up and play with their babies. None of that in my house, all Legos, balls and action figures, nerf guns...the dog and I have learned to dodge nerf bullets.

So much of that playing behavior is inate. It truly is. Not for everyone, but for the majority for sure.

She is so cute.

My boys act like pink is a repellent so I would think maybe she is born with it.

Grandy said...

It's true they catch everything we do, isn't it?

Now that little girl makes being a toddler classy!

Thanks for your encouraging comment on Ms Adventures today. It was just the kind of feedback I needed.

Your Fifi is adorable. I've got an Ali who is ready to play. She even abuses her dollies the same way.

Flea said...

Yay for Fifi proudly being a girl! Keep up the good work, OHmommy!

It is amazing how young it starts. Looks like Fifi is going to be a girly girl! She is so adorable.

I am loving the black and white photo with the pink accents. You have such a gift for photography.

Great pic!

Who cares where she gets it if it means you get to take photos of her looking like that?! Too cute!

Carissa(GoodnCrazy) said...

She is rockin'.

And the baby, crashing precariously on the edge of the stroller, well, let's just hope she notices before it's too late.

Val said...

She's ready to go out on the town.
So cute!

LOL! That is too cute :)
Wait...did I just hear her say "rainboots?" :)
