Why can't they eat Poptarts?

There are some days, like today, that I wish I parented a little differently. When I brought home my first born I vowed to cook organic healthy meals and minimize his television exposure. Karma is not a friend of mine.

Today I am sick. Very intestinally sick, without sparing you the descriptive details, I am able to fill up standard size kid sand pails to the brim, sick. Oh vey. I am sick.

Why can't my children just eat a pop tart for breakfast? Seriously, I even purchased the Princess kind.

Why can't my kids jump up and down with excitement when I offer to throw in a movie? I even offered them candy hoping that would drag them inside.

Had I known that sometimes mothers get violently ill and need some rest I would have pushed the pop tarts and TV much sooner. You live and you learn. I will not make that mistake with my youngest. She already squeals "Yum, Yum, Yuuuummmm." When we open the freezer door. Yummy frozen treats.

Although, if my children spent the day with me in bed watching TV and snacking, I would have missed out on this. I would have missed this next milestone. Lola learning to pronounce SWIM. My sister will kill me. She is in love with Lola's mis-pronunciations of yellow, school, swim, and cool. Another bittersweet milestone.

Please excuse the fully dressed third child in the pool drinking water from the water gun container. I am sick, remember?

Sorry you're feeling so bad. Hopefully it will be gone tomorrow.

Take care & stock up on those pop-tarts, the kids will still turn out ok.

I feel your pain. Me and my hubbs were in your place yesterday. Its awful. I wish you well very soon. Best of luck - I wish I could eat those Pop-Tarts! (not yesterday but today!)

I am embarrassed to say that I got poptarts this week for the first time since... highschool. I just too lazy, and too hungry to care.

Lola is too cute for words in this video. She is such a little performer. I love Jay just riding around in circles, ha.

I do hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe you're getting some good bed rest/ reading time!

Oh my gosh how cute is that!? Love it!

Hope you are feeling better by morning :( Being sick is not fun at all.

Oh goodness you have some cuuute kids!! I love that Lola mastered the word swimming! I checked out some of your other videos too. Could your littlest one be any cuter in her diaper and backpack giving you kisses??!! LOVED that Jay and Lola danced to Bnackstreet boys. That was just awesome!

Sorry you are sick and I hope you feel better asap. I know how crapola that can be when you have to take care of your kids!! Get better!

Being sick is no fun. But being sick while taking care of three kids? Ughhhh!

Hang in there, I hope you are feeling better soon.

Oh my, sick with kids at home, not good. Hope your feeling better soon!
Lola is so cute. Pop tarts every once in a while never killed anyone, I know. Did you know that Costco has some that are made with organic fruit and organic sugar? My kids actually like them better. They aren't as sweet though, but that's o.k.

The baby in the background is the best part!

I'm sick too.....it sucks!

Good job Lola for saying swimming even though schwimming was much more adorable.

Get well soon!

First - your kids are TOO cute... love the mispronunciation of words.

Little munchkin in the pool - in clothes - drinking dirty water - yeah..... she has a twin right here. Dig that I'm not the only one... though I can't use sickness as an excuse...

Backyard - so nice. Super jealous.

Feel better soon!

I feel for ya sister! Both the kids are in 'ignoring mom heaven' when I raise the bar for unlimited TV/PS2/Computer consumption and gross foods.

They can make a package of Toaster Strudels disappear unlike anything I have ever seen.

1) Feel better! I hate being sick with the kids all over me! IT SUUUUUCKS!

2) Love the video! She is such a cutie!!

3) The best part of the video, sorry Lola, Fifi in the background fully clothed playing totally unaware of anything else going on! LOVE THAT!

4) I expect you to be in NJ on October 26, 2008 waiting at the finish line for me! ;)

I hope it is just a 24 hour bug....being a mama and being sick is the worst!!!

PS - Lola is just too stinking cute. I mean, really? All three of them are just perfect. You need to produce more children!!!

What a sweetie! I can't believe it is actually warm enough by you to go Schwimming. It is finally warming up here, but it has been raining. I hope you feel better soon. Put your feet up and chill out.

AW...I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you should have a pop-tart yourself...I hear they cure intestinal flus...;)

Indy said...

My kids don't eat as healthy as yours and they still won't eat poptarts. What gives? Never could have told me this before I had kids that you have to teach them to eat such unhealthy food. Let me know if you want to drop the kids off so you can rest. I'll take all 3.:)

Karen MEG said...

Ohmommy, poor you, get better soon.

I feed my kids anything they will eat in the morning; but they're not big on poptarts either!! Too sweet, apparently.

I would eat poptarts if I saw them in my cupboard (mind you, they seem to have icing on all of them now, not so when I was a kid)

That is the cutest vid, BTW. I LOVE the mispronunciations, but then as a mother I feel obligated to correct them too, so that they don't go through life mispronouncing everything. Not that they will, but I'm just paranoid that way.

tracey.becker1@gmail.com said...

I'm sorry you're so sick!!! We always say that we wish the kids didn't have to be sick, and that we'd take it all upon ourselves if we could, but you know whaT? It is MUCH HARDER to parent when you're sick. It is MUCH EASIER to take care of a sick kid.

I'm just sayin.

Get some rest and I hope they glom onto those treats you're offering!

Jessica said...

Feel better! Bummer. My son will not eat a traditional pop-tart but he will eat the Pop-Tart "Go-Tarts"....more or less exact same thing but shaped into a bar. Bizarre no? It is like he doesn't know what to do with the regular rectangle one. Oh well. Enjoy the warm weather and tell hubby to come home early and care for the kiddos....it is friday!

Hopefully, you don't have what I had. I believe I left part of my lower intestine in the men's room one afternoon.

Also, please refrain from posting photos of said bucket-o-poo.

Thanks in advance.

You're sick and you're still out there being the best mom ever! I am shamed. The last time I was sick I had to call my mom to come change Micah's diaper because I would have lost my stomach contents doing it.

Oh no! I think you filled your quota for sick back in "One Flu Over the Cuckoos Nest". I'm still having nightmares over that post!

Oh I had my kids on junk food and tv from day one. Ok, not so much baby #1, but baby #2 TOTALLY!

Perfect example, this morning I dragged my ass outta bed to get them outta their cribs. I was uber tired this morning. When asked what they wanted for breakfast, they said chocolate cookies. Well, guess what they got for breakfast? Yep, chocolate cookies.

I'm so sorry you're sick. Hang in there. It's hard being a mommy and being sick.

Oh, it's the WORST when Mommy's sick!! Because you are stille expected to run at full speed...and everyone expects you to keep up....and all you want to do is just curl up in your bed and die. Ugh! I hope you are feeling better and that it was just a 24 hour thing!

CC said...

Sorry about the bug :( :(

clearly you need a Speech Pathologist to read your blog and watch your kids.

Oh wait.

that's me!

No, I think mispronouncing a FEW words is adorable. And make sure you have movies of all those idiosyncratic pronunciations.

Mispronouncing lots of words? Not so cute. Come see me.

Bunchy said...

Yeah, the rules go out the window when you're sick. Don't worry about it...one or two days of sugar and fully-dressed pool swimming will not hurt them. You're a great mom, and you know it.

BTW, I mentioned you in my post today....just so ya know.

I was sick like that back in January. Mommy's aren't allowed to get sick apparently. My husband was able to stay home and take care of both my girls. They paid me back though a few days later as I was still recouping they either got food poisoning or my virus but my oldest ended up in the ER because she got sick so much and my youngest got sick all over me and everywhere. It was a lovely evening! I hope you feel better! My youngest eats things I never let my oldest have until recently. I think you get a little more lax when you have multiple children. I am 30 also. I love your blog!

Unknown said...

I am so sorry you are sick... I, too am dealing with a malady of my own. I finally got on the internet to post a snippet about it on my blog.

I have been having the WORST luck as of late...

But I guess things could be a lot worse. (That's the only thought that keeps my sane right now)

I love that vid!!! And the fact that she just keeps going while you ask her to repeat it is great...I've tried that and they just get pissed and walk away! Hmph.

I feel your pain with the poptarts. I let them pick out poptarts too...no. Cereal bars? No. Chocolate chip muffins? No. MUST I serve healthy things? Every. Day. Grrrr...
