The next BEST thing since sliced bread. And. I am giving it away!!!

Two months ago, Jay bought a "World's Best Gamer" trophy for his father on Father's Day, and I asked you to recommend a gaming system for us.

So many of you fabulous readers wrote in with suggestions and after reading them all I agreed with some and decided to forgo buying a system. I wasn't ready to lose my little boy, my first born, to the world of gaming. Yet.

We put the idea on the back burner and decided to purchase a ping pong table for our basement, for his 6th birthday. Dziadek (Polish for Grandpa) has been Jay's ping pong coach and the kid is good. Really good.

Fast forward one month, and I was strolling through all of the sponsor's tables at BlogHer and noticed the LeapFrog table. Jay grew up with LeapFrog toys and has enjoyed his Leapster immensely. However, he outgrew it and hasn't picked it up in over a year. I stopped at the table for my free water bottle and noticed a new system geared for 6 to 10 years old.

"No way! Is this a new product?" I asked the LeapFrog rep.

"Yes. New on the market. It is the didj, the new competitor to the Nintendo DS."

"No way!!!"

"Yes. The graphics are amazing. It is educational. It comes with a USB port and you can download your spelling lists straight into the gaming device. You can create your own characters online and download them directly onto the didj"

"No way!!! I just blogged about this and asked my readers to recommend a good gaming system for my six year old." I laughed out loud, thrilled that I had just stumbled upon the next best thing.

"Cool. Yes, this is our new didj. As a LeapFrog product you can count on this being educational and fun."

"Can I buy this one?" I was sold. The ping pong table was already on the back burner at this point. Besides, the didj is portable and takes up less space.

I had one week in between coming home from BlogHer and Jay's 6th birthday. I logged onto LeapFrog.com that Sunday night and purchased all of the games available to date. AND. AND. AND..... guess what is being released in October?

Indiana Jones. And.

Star Wars.

I know. I know. Ohmygoshthisisthecoolestthingever!!!!! I can hardly contain my excitement.

Jay woke up on his birthday to a room filled with balloons and wrapped presents. He tore open each one and saved the one "from Mama" for last.

He. Was. Thrilled. He pushed aside the "Grow-A-Frog" and the Legos and the newest Jonas Brothers CD and logged onto his didj. The kid played with it for hours and was amazed, "This is like a tiny computer, Mama" and "I look like a teenager, don't I" and "Mama, this is the best present I ever got" and "Mama, this is the coolest birthday I ever had" and "Mama, you are the best mama in the whole entire world."

And. I melted.

He insisted that we take it along in the car and I watched him play in my rear view mirror. He looked so old, so grown up, so not a little boy anymore. But, I was okay with this, I have trusted LeapFrog for years and I know that this product is just about the safest gaming system for a six year old.

The next day, I logged on to my own computer and emailed the LeapFrog rep I met at BlogHer.

"Thank you so much for spending your time explaining the didj at BlogHer. I purchased everything off of your website. My son is in love with it. I know my readers would be too. So, I am just going to throw this out there and ask if you can give away a system to my readers. It doesn't hurt to ask. LOL. Right? Please let me know. We LOVE it." Read my email. And yes, I do write "LOL" in emails.

Some days later, the rep emailed me.

"I can give your readers one didj and one didj game."

I love the didj. You will too.

Just leave me a comment telling me how awesome I am. Errr.... I mean..... how awesome this new product is. ONE COMMENT PER PERSON, if you comment twice you are out of the giveaway. I am using random.org as many of you recommended.

You have until Sunday, August 3rd, 2008 at 12:00PM EST. Yes, in the middle of the afternoon PM. Good luck.

P.S. This is not a review, nor a product endorsement, I am not getting paid. I simply love the product and emailed them and said "I love your stuff and want to give it away." And they did. Awesome LeapFrog people. Awesome!

P.S.S. Now if only Saks Fifth Ave would answer my emails regarding my love affair with their stilettos!!!!

Ashlee said...

Thanks for giving us the heads up on this new toy. We have a serious love/hate relationship with video games at my house. My son is pretty much banned from his Nintendo DS. I tell him his brain will rot. :0) But, he will love this because it's video games...and I will love it because he will be learning as he plays. We had a LeapFrog video game system when he was smaller and he loved it. So glad they came out with this! Hopefully I'll get mine for free. *fingers crossed*

One of the very first toys Maya (my beautiful little granddaughter who is autistic) received for Christmas when she was a year old was a leapfrog Frog that sang various songs, talked, etc. When she finally began to learn to speak, she became very interested in this particular toy and we credit it for her learning several little songs from it -great toy, great learning experience for her. This item sounds like something she would very much enjoy now as she is gearing up for kindergarten next year plus, she is absolutely fascinated by computers!!! And her birthday is just around the corner in October too!

Well, I have to admit that our children don't have any video games, mostly because my kids get very addicted very quickly. BUT we do use our Leap Pad and my kids really love it. So, sign me up. I know I'll never win but here's wishing....

This one looks fantastic! My 5 year old will die and go to heaven if we win this.

You can download your spelling and math problems from school onto this thing? That. is. so. cool.

I have never even seen this! We love LeapFrog as well and son wanted a Nintendo DS, but I didn't want him to have one. He also never plays with the Leapster any longer.
(again, sorry you have to post rules, I hope I was not the instagator!)

Oh wow! This is GREAT! I have never heard of it but I love the educational aspect combined with the current themes like Indiana Jones and Star Wars. In fact, I know 2 boys in this house who would LOVE one!

You ARE the best Mommy out there.

P.S. I hope you found random.org so you don't have to pick the old fashioned way again. E-mail me if you need help with it:)

We've been looking at the DS, but the girls are too young for such a fragile item! The leapfrog one looks like it is built for little mishaps!

We totally love Leap Frog stuff and we don't have this and I haven't even seen it until I saw it on your blog! Now I'm thinking we need one. Leap Frog is truly good no joking. My kids have learned a lot from their stuff. I really recommend their Letter Factory DVDs. My girls learned their letters and sounds from those.

Well, I'm late for the giveaway, but I'm glad to hear that you found a good alternative to the video gaming systems. I'll have to recommend this to my mom for my little brothers.
