Barbie meets Ben 10

"I'm getting an OPERATION tomorrow." Lola squealed to her preschool teacher. She said it so nonchalantly as if she's was going to get a manicure.

"Tomorrow MY DADDY is taking me to MY OPERATION." She smiled at the librarian.

"My OPERATION is tomorrow Mama."

"I have an OPERATION tomorrow!!!" She told her gymnastics teacher. After explaining the procedure, her teacher asked "Is that why she is so loud?"

Yes. Lola is getting an operation tomorrow. Anyone within a fifty mile radius of Cleveland knows this now. If I saved a quarter for every time she screamed the word OPERATION in the last three days I would have enough money to purchase those stilettos at Saks I have been drooling over.

"Why am I having an OPERATION tomorrow?"

I described to her a pretty pink convertible that went in for a check-up and the mechanic found some parts that needed a tune-up. Once tuned up, the pretty pink convertible could resume it's path only this time going faster and preforming better.

"Like me? LIKE ME MAMA!!!" Lola screamed with glee.

I continued my story of the pretty pink convertible and all of the rest it needed after it's tune up. I explained to her how the car usually needs good fuel to run well but when the car is resting after a tune up it, well... it could run on junk fuel.

"Like me? LIKE ME MAMA???" Lola screamed with glee and anticipation.

"Yes." And with that we were off to stock up on cherry jello, papaya sorbet, vanilla yogurt, Popsicles, and banana-strawberry-pineapple juice. When we arrived home we were greeted with a freshly baked loaf of "yummy cake bread" on our porch with a classy note attached from a girlfriend of mine. "Tell Lola we are thinking of her."

"This is for me?" She asked as she ripped open the Ziploc bag. She ate nearly a quarter of the loaf after a dinner of my infamous stuffed cabbage. I was happy she was going to bed with a full belly since she can't eat on the day of her OPERATION.

"This is so not fair!" Jay announced.

"What?"

"This is soooooo not fair! She gets to eat junk all day long? When I got an operation in Paris all I got was ONE ice cream cone!"

"Good point."

My son. My only son. The sensitive one that gives into being bullied because he lives to please and love, just solved his own problem. I have been working with him on confidence and speaking up since he was born and my heart melted when he stood up for himself. God, I love it when my parenting and hard work pays off. And with that we were off again this time to splurge and purchase the long awaited Barbie: A Christmas Carol and Ben 10 movies. And. Fifi, the third child, got a bag of Target socks. Because. Geesh. My kids rock.

I am head over stilettos in love with them all.

A bag of socks? Of all things in this entry that would have made me giggle, THAT made me giggle the most. I need a new bag of socks. Thanks for reminding me.

I'll have you all in my prayers for quick and easy healing as well as fully-restored hearing for McLoudySkirts. :)

What's with the bag of socks? I, for one, would not be placated with a bag of socks.

Just sayin'

Good luck to Lola.

I love you and your darling little ones.

Tell my darling little one that she's in my prayers and if I were there I'd bake her a pink convertible cake for when she's all better and you, well I'd mix you a drink and make you some pasta and a fabulous salad with garlic bread. And you can make me cabbage and then you'll teach me how to be a stiletto ho, K :-)

Prayers for you and the punkin'

You and sweet Lola will be in my prayers tomorrow.

P.s. . . . you always have the best analogies for your kids. I'm totally jealous.

And how is the Barbie movie? We've been waiting for it, too. Give loud Lola hugs and Jay gets kisses from Isobel. And Fifi, she gets cuddles (from me).

I've gotta admit, I'm pretty envious of the socks.

Stuffed cabbage? Oh, I LOVE stuffed cabbage...oh wait, that isn't the most important thing here :)!

Many prayers for Lola and the whole rest of the family as she has her OPERATION. I am so glad that her tune-up will have her running even better than ever. HA! And good for Jay, for speaking up--YOU GO, BOY! And Fifi got socks...hehehe...isn't it nice when they're still young enough to think socks are a treat!

Now, back to those cabbage rolls...

So happy for you. I know nothing, even fancy stilettos, can't make me as happy as when I feel successful parenting!

Well, accept maybe those Louboutin Armadillo in blue could make me as happy....

I hope Lola's operation goes smoothly. My co-worker's son had the same issue when he was younger (he's now 7 and can hear perfectly). I'll be thinking of you. :)

You know I love it. I will be praying for Lola's surgery and sugary, Barbie filled recovery. Jay is getting more and mroe courageous- very great. And I am glad that Fifi's feet won't be stinky anymore (socks and one shoe, may be a good combo).

Love the pink convertible tune-up example. You always have the perfect analogy for everything.

Praying that all goes well with the surgery and that Lola has a speedy recovery.

Good luck tomorrow, Lola!

I wonder if Lola has ANY idea that people from all over the world are going to be thinking about her tomorrow, hoping that her operation goes well and saying prayers in native languages that don't sound anything like English. Gosh, they'll even be praying in Australian.

Kudos to your boy! That is awesome! Good luck with the procedure.

Jaina said...

Good luck Lola! (and Jay is so cute! I went back and read that post)

OH classy mommy, you are so wonderful. Tell Lola I'll be thinking of her so her OPERATION will go well, and maybe you all deserve a little splurge (like those Saks stilettos) for helping take care of her while she rests ;)
