Wishes for my daughter(s)

One of my wishes for you, dearest daughter(s), is for you to always enjoy what you see as you look in the mirror. Little do you know, that one day you will become your harshest critic.

I want you to stand as tall as you did today, forever. I want you to confidently make silly faces and smile, forever. I will continue to teach you to listen to your heart.

And when that mean girl, in the 6th grade, approaches you during lunch to tell you that your fake Keds from Kmart are ugly my wish for you is to stick your tongue out, tilt your head, and giggle as innocently as you did this morning. Because little will you know then, in the 6th grade, that she's having trouble herself following her own heart.

It happens a lot sooner than 6th grade these days. My little one came home the other day and told me that the girls were picking on her.

I asked her what she said and she told me that she told them they were being rude.

I guess I can't ask for more then that.

Reason #97 why I love my kids' school. Uniforms are great! Not that they can't still make comments about hair, or how many Webkinz, DS games, or whatever is the latest and greatest. But, at least it takes one element out of the socialization game.

I LOVE this post! And yes, nowadays it does happen a lot sooner. They also know so much more than we did! Girls are so mean.

I do think that girls have it harder than boys in that area. Usually.

Adorable pink polka dot dress! She's a cutie.

And I guess I could enter a shopping giveaway...if you twist my arm about it. hehe

I made the mistake of getting my daughter the fake Crocs and the fake Uggs. I've learned my lesson. Which is truly sad.

Awesome wish for her. Learning about bullies early is something I plan to teach my kiddos, too. I was bullied and took it to heart and still haven't really gotten over, 10 years later! I never want my kids to feel that kind of sadness!

Your daughters crack me up. And I hope my kids always retain their confidence that they ARE fine with the way they look.

I know I worry about Kate being teased for being Chinese and having a Mommy and brothers who are not. People ask and say the rudest things. I just think our job is to help them feel loved and secure EXACTLY as they are. All kids have periods of self doubt but if we instill confidence in them...they will be fine:)

I know exactly what you mean! It's sad that we love ourselves so much, and only become our harshest critic after others are mean to us!

And, she just looks precious in that little pink dress.

i so wish this for my girls too.
and i hate that i know the day is coming that emily will no longer admire herself in the mirror, but she will stand there finding all her faults.

Thank God I have boys!!! Although I have a stepdaughter too, and she struggled with teasers as young as 2nd grade. Being a chick sucks.

I still do that sometimes now...

Unfortunately, everyone is right...it starts at such a young age!! Girls can be so catty and mean at times....the only thing we can do is instill self confidence in our daughters so they stand up for themselves and don't become defeated by remarks of others.

Great post as always!!

Fantastic post! I think you are on the right track...my daughter is in 6th grade and though she loves herself some Juicy Couture, Lucky brand, Seven for all man kind and Tru Religion...the kid feels confident enough in herself to find some really cool stuff at the thrift store whcih she wears with pride...She also just picked up her first pair of fake keds from Kmart and she loves them!

I love her dress! I think she is already ahead of the game when she told that little girl off when she commented on her dress. She has a wonderful mommy role-model and she and Fifi will be just fine!

How sweet. I hope she keeps this lovely view of herself forever!

This is a great sentiment, and I hope the very same for both my son and my daughter. I will say that my son has already come home (at 4.5) telling me about things the other boys said about someone not being "cool" because of something he was wearing...yikes. I want to instill the same sense of confidence to combat that that you do. Here's hoping!

Well said! WEll said. We could all use a little more kindness when it comes to ourselves. I love your blog and look forward daily to your next post. Praying for your "mother in love"! Godspeed to her and we pray she stomps this nasty disease once and for all!

Love this post, I wish that for my daughter to! Great job Mommy on being so positive :)

I love the spirit that little kids have when they dress themselves and check it out in the mirror. Some of the outfits that my girls put together put Hanna Anderson to shame. LOL

So sad, isn't it?

I hate to say this but as a mother you can do everything right yet they still may be bullied or picked on for a choice of hairstyle, weight, shoes, clothing, who they hang out with, or not having a Dooney and Burke bag like all their friends have. Like it or not, it's just the way it is. It's tough out there for our daughters.

Unfortunately these issues are still following my older daughter in high school. I'd like to wring the bullies necks!

My best to you and your daughters.

Sharon
