An organic recipe for chaos

Add one extremely good looking chick from the finest stock whatev, this is my blog to a seven passenger, entry-level, burgundy minivan.

Load the van with two TV/DVD systems, three feature length Disney films and a handful of processed foods.

Lovingly mix in two excited chickadees and one chickatoddler who's on her way at mastering the look of death.

Place above mixture sans husband on an open road through the picturesque farms of Ohio and ummm... Indiana for approximately 370 miles.

When the timer hits the bewitching hour and all chicks have been fried (approximatly 6.5 hours) carefully unload and deposit under the thatched roof of chick's parents. For eleven days.

You can choose to finish off the fried chicks with one or all the following toppings: one distant relative's wedding in which they all stand up in, one chance to make a first-time impression on chick's sister's future in-laws at engagement party, one annual Fourth of July beach party, and a handful of play-dates/museums/parks sprinkled in between.

Please note: This recipe hasn't been tested. I plan on trying it out Thursday afternoon. I'll let you know how it goes. Just in case you want to sample it youself. I'm thoughtful like that.

That's a tricky one, I think only fantasy chefs (mystical, never-seen-IRL parents) can pull it off without a glitch.

You are brave, my friend. May the sauce (force) be with you ;-)

Oh what fun! A road trip sans dad! Always my favorite recipe, and I'm not being sarcastic. I love it! You're going to have a great time! When they're a little older, books on CD are great!

How are your eyes?

Recipe for disaster for sure.
Good luck with that.
Can't say I am the least bit envious.
Have fun though!;)

Dude...2 DVD systems and 3 children is surely a recipe for some major car arguments (at least they would be in my car ;o)

Hope your recipe turns out to perfection...and you don't lose your sanity on the way there.

Oooooooh! I just sent you a tweet today requesting your road trip expertise. I picked up two new movies today... but I need more... come on, cough up the good stuff. How do you keep them all happy? (or semi-pacified)

Good luck! I loved your recipe for stuffed cabbage, so this is the same, no?

I am all about the road trips in the Odessey by myself with four kids. If you figure out a way to get processed food to the back seats, let me know. I am thinking about rigging some type of clothes line, that I can clip food to and send it back.

Also, a little dramamine never hurts!

She's definitely mastering the look of death. HAHAHAHA!

Can't wait to see you guys. The chicakdees look adorable in that car. Wish I could join in on the roadtrip!

Oh, boy! Is it bad if I say I don't envy you. At least for the drive part.

Have a great time at your sister's wedding and the festivities!

Ouch.

I say that because we just DID that (plus about 500 miles) ... and are about to ... on Monday do it all over again.

I need to re-read my post on road trips I think cuz I'm not brave enough to do it again ...

Only a handful of processed foods? You need more milady. Much, much more.

Good luck and Have fun! I'm sure my day is coming.

Good luck... good luck... good luck.

What - does this mean that the husband is flying and missing out on all the fun?!

Good luck, I'm pretty sure it will all be worth it.

Keep repeating that.

Look of death definitely mastered.

Aside from Fifi's evil glare, I think you've got the recipe for a great time all put together! I've packed three kids into a little Chevette and headed out in various directions -south, then west -for a week's worth of travel and lived to tell about it. Didn't have any of the additional goodies then that you have available -tv/dvds, full length movies and stuff then though. But you know you'll no doubt have a ball, won't 'cha?

How fun! Your only sister's wedding, and your kids get to participate. It'll be a cherished day, for sure. Enjoy. :)

I'm trying a similar recipe on Sunday. Should be interesting.

I don't think I could do that - and I only have one little girl. We were thinking of taking our Lil' Mayhem Maker to the zoo this summer, two hours away, but, if her last car trip of 15 minutes was any indication - it looks like perhaps we will go to the zoo, in, oh.. 15 years??!!?!?!!?

Not my sister's wedding, just a relatives. We have a year to prepare for my sisters. :)

HAve a safe trip. May the smell not become too horrendous.

And hope the chickatoddler smiles a bit...

I've been reading your oh so fantastic blog for sometime now. I laughed when I read this post because I also have three children and live in Indiana...so I KNOW that drive is TOUGH! Best wishes!

Stephanie said...

Oh heavens, good luck. If it makes you feel any better, I've attempted trips like these several times and it's always turned out better than I had dreaded. Not bump-free, now, but not as bad as it could have been.

I hope you have a safe, and sane trip!

Ah, road trips. My best trick so far has been to create little lap desks for them, so that they can color, do dot to dots, etc, easily. (I used cork boards from the $1 bin at Target, and then gave each kid a container of crayons.) I also like to leave at a time of day/evening that will ensure that everyone sleeps at least part of the trip (except the driver!) Good luck!

We just passed up a fourth of July trip to the beach with family because we weren't sure if an eight hour drive would be manageable with a 3 month old and a 3 year old! We're not that brave yet! :) Good Luck and have fun!!

You forgot an ingredient in the recipe. One glass (or bottle) of wine for the Chick when she arrives in Chicago.

Have a great trip!

We are taking a road trip in 6 days... 12 hours, stopping after 5 for an overnite stay! You are amazing for doing this by yourself! My husband IS COMING! I can barely make it 2 hours with my kids! The DVD players will help though, indefinitely!!
