Eeny, meeny, miny, moe!

Lola stands before my sister and two cousins, at a family party. The three girls are sitting on the couch and Lola is dancing in front of them. My sister, a very posh and stylish, twenty something smiles and encourages her to dance. My blond cousin, a club hopping fashionista, giggles and claps her hands. My youngest cousin, a sweet natured high school freshmen, smiles naturally and crosses her arms. I, the 30 year old mom of three (with the only small kids in our extended family) observe them from a distance.

Lola continues to dance and twirls around encouraged by her audience. She stops.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe! Catch a tiger by his toes. If he hollers, let him go. EENY! MEENY. MINY. MOE!!!” Lola’s words get louder and more animated. She is jumping up and down with anticipation.

“MOE!!! I pick you. You are the moe. That means you are the winner!” She is beaming with pride and staring at my club hopping cousin.

“Right on! Awesome. What did I win, Lola?” My cousin stands up and straightens her teeny tiny almost inappropriate for a family function skirt.

“Yup. You are the winner!!! YOU are going to take me potty!” Lola feverishly jumps up and down, twirls around until dizzy, and claps her hands in excitement.

Her confidence is contagious and natural. I hope she takes what she was born with and holds onto it. Forever. My job today is to nurture some compassion into her confidence. The girl has to learn that wiping her poopcha isn't a reward for others.

In the end, I took Lola to the potty. I was unable to confidently tell my cousin to accompany her.

OMG, I love you Lola, she is exactly like Hope (and Hope is 5). See, I'm evil I would have made the cousin take her ;)

Oh that's great! I had a million other ideas of what she was going to win, taking her to the potty was not one of them! Cute.

Oh you should have let your cousin do it!!! Talk about birth control, eh??

I would've let your cousin do it too! That is so funny!

OH you were SO CLOSE!! Why can't we have cameras on our heads for just such occassions? This is AWESOME!!

Ha!! Lola is such a character!

Lola is one of those kids that every time I hear about her I want to a)meet her and b)hang out with her. She's a pistol and I LOVE that!

What a sweetheart!! My 2 year old is potty training and we just fall over laughing because she has a small victory dance that she does while singing the Dora theme song..."I did it, I did it" Doesn't it make potty time more tolerable? I love that I am not the only one with relatives with inappropriate clothing! :)

What a sweet and funny story. My 2 1/2 yo needs some of her excitement.....mine is not at all interested in anything to do with her potty. Expect filling it with various household items. Maybe...someday....

She is too cute!! My Abby was born with confidence too. We are working on the compassion thing!!!

So were they nervously glancing around to make sure you were close? Winning a trip to the potty, how funny that she thought it was such a prize. Of course with that amazing confidence why not?
Love her.

Aww! Lola is precious!

Oh--here's is to hoping that she stays that way. We need more confident girls. They need to believe in themselves in a world that doesn't always believe in them. So many mixed messages. Great job, mommy!

We need more Lolas in this world.

I love that she thinks that's an awesome prize for a group of stylish ladies. I wonder what would happen if one of the girls did the same thing in reverse to her...lol

At family functions my daughters ALWAYS choose my younger brother to accompany them to the bathroom.

He doesn't have kids and has no idea what he is suppose to do. It is very amusing.

BTW.. Heck ya, go to the movies, enjoy yourself and all your free time away from kids. No, one talking to you during the movie, no one making comments that bug, no one lauging so obnoxiously that you want to hit them, well at least no one with you. Do it and then i want to hear about it.

Hi ohmommy!

This was hilarious! I would have made the cousin go clean her poop chute! It would have been a lesson learned!!!

Your kids seem to have the same wonderful personality as you! Isn't it weird how by just reading someone's blog you feel like you know them???? I'm a newbie, so I'm still amazed!

You should have had her take Lola to the potty. Would have been a great reminder when Mr. Hottie wanted to go home at the end of the night :)

What a little cutie your Lola is!!! This was such a cute story - I felt like I was right there watching her twirl around and around and around.

Have a good Tuesday - see you later. Kellan

I agree with some of the others! I TOTALL would have let your teenage cousin do it! I can see why you wouldn't have though!
Isn't it great to see how excited they get just to go to the bathroom? I hope she holds on to that enthusiasm as well, it will be a great asset later in life!

This is hilarious. I totally would have smiled at the cousin and hoped for the best. Or pretended not to hear and hoped for the best. But I can be lazy (mean) that way. :)

bless her little self, that is priceless.

two things to comment on:
(1) i (living the city life and childless) have been the winner of such a pupcia cleaning by dear lola!! i didn't realize it was such an honor amidst my gagging. wish i would've known :-) she really is one-of-a-kinda...well may be two-of-a-kind, after kash.
(2) dziadek, your father, commenting in Polish...you didn't warn me, I could've burst a blood vessel laughing from that!!

Too cute! Perhaps that in and of itself could be a new 'award' - the potty award! *grin*

I've got a lot of 'catchin' up to do with your blog, but I have to say I love your new look!

Rock on, Classy! You are Mah-velous!

If I were sitting there (and were chosen), I would have corrected her - "...and you are NOT it. It is a process of elimiations, sweetie" Of course, if the winning prize would have been hugs and kisses, I would have let it go!

That was so funny! What a prize... we get that all the time, "ummm, I want Mommy to take me, oh no, Daddy, oh wait, Mommy!."
Little cousin should have been honoured to escort Lola to her throne, tee hee!
