Away from my desk

"You look adorable."

"I don't like this dress."

"Oh, Lola. You look so adorable. Just like Hannah Montana."

"Mom. Hannah Montana isn't adorable. She is COOL." Lola pouts while getting dressed this morning.

"Mama! I found my five dollars. It was my under the red shield!!!" Jay skips in the room, already dressed to start the day.

I tell the kiddos to tiptoe past the master bedroom, in which the Feenster baby is still asleep next to my husband, after a very long and sleepless night. I see Lola trying to hide her giggles and Jay glares at her, "Shhhh... you will wake them." We are on a secret spy mission to make it to Dunkin Donuts before the school bus comes. Before Daddy wakes. Before the sun wakes.

A morning date with my growing children... one sassy and one responsible. Where I am going to tell them to stop growing.

** Called our humane society and turns out our male cat was fixed. Thanks to so many of you for educating me. I had no idea feline male parts were so hard to find. **

My grandmother used to take me out to breakfast and would swear to 'put rocks in my socks' to keep me little. These really are the things you never forget.

Dunkin Donuts! I swear those don't exist on Tulsa. And YAY! For Jay, finding his fiver! Good work, mom. :)

I'd forgotten that you'd gotten your kitten at the Humane Society. They don't adopt out until their animals are fixed.

Geesh mom....you didn't know that Hannah Montana was cool and not adorable. Shame on you. ;0)

Glad you found your cats man parts, or sort of anyway. I was well educated after reading the comments too. Very interesting.

Hope it was fun.

Yuck for the rough night. Hopefully, you don't ever have another one.

Did Jay treat you to the donuts with his five-spot? No? That would have been nice, though.

Glad you got Tod all figured out.

And, when you figure out the growing thing...let me know.

Yeah tell me how that works out for you, where you tell them to stop growing, because I have been unsuccessful so far.

Geez mom. She looks COOL. Not adorable!

Can you tell I've had this talk with my son??

Sounds like the perfect, PERFECT way to start a day.

Sorry about your sleepless night. I wish I was closer. Since I'm up anyway, I may as well hang out with your Feenster.

By the way, how do you do that? Tell the kids to stop growing? In two days Gracie will be seven. And a few weeks after that, Isaac will turn ELEVEN. Bah!

Hannah Montana is making the round in our house this week too! What is the deal???? Must be something in the air. Either way, I think we're both in for it. I so wish we lived closer so we could meet for drinks and comiserate.

Yes, Madeline is not cute anymore. If I want an outfit to have a chance, it looks "cool." Hair must be cool, not cute. Cute is so last year.

I love the morning date idea, think I could get one of them to go after the 4am bottle. LOL

i wish i could bottle that.

Good for you for taking them on such a fun adventure! You are a very classy mama to think of such things. I have to remember that for when mine are a bit older.

We sometimes do a early morning donut run on the weekends. Hmmm... we have a morning errand tomorrow, I think a cruller would be perfect for breakfast.

ok...seriously...i just laughed through my nose about your male cat issue...

Sylvia said a character had a royal flush. I had that moment of, why does she know that? Oh yeah. She's growing up. *sigh*

It's early, so anything with donuts sounds good right now!
Why do they have to get so big so fast? It's so bitterswwet! We don't want them to become independant, but we love to see them learn the things we have tried to teach. Great post!~

don't grow up. ah, the three words that any mom knows. scary how quickly the little ones grow. at least you are wise enough to slow down and realize...

Scary Mommy said...

Oh, I hear you. Don't you just want to freeze them some days?! (and we so do the D&D trips when Daddy's away :))

Val said...

That is so fun, I would not have time for that in the morning unless I got up earlier. We get up 1/2 hour before the bus comes.

Unknown said...

Darn growing kids. I know how you feel. We all do of course. It's universal.

Wish I could freeze my G right now. He's at such a cute age (20 months) and I just want to eat him up!

Hope the donuts were good (well of course they were, duh!) ; )
