Investing in YOU

(A very awesome giveaway. Boots by YOU)

harder. faster. don't you think you could lift more? more. come on. pull. push. this is your last one, work it. one more time. ass to the grass. lower. quicker. is that all you are going to lift?make this one count. faster. pull. push.

Rinse, lather, repeat. For one hour, three times a week.

It has been 12 weeks. Nearly 40 breathless, gasping for air, muscles twitching, horribly exhausting, gut wrenching, early morning, fitness boot camp workouts.

Looking GOOD hurts. BAD.

Ahem. Rocking my new skinny jeans.

Honestly though. It has been a while since I invested in myself, my mental well being, and my physical health. It feels good.

I encourage you to invest in yourself too. It is so easy to lose track of yourself, especially as a mother constantly putting yourself before your children. But, if Mama ain't happy no one is happy. Right?

Let's start now.

You like shoes, yes?

Eeeek, me too!!!!

I have the most awesomest of awesome boots for you.

They are the $220 "Sexy snowbunny" boots from YOU by crocs. Seriously girlfriends, they are super duper sexy and trust me they will make you smile this winter season.

They are YOURS. Not mine, sigh. I'm pointing to YOU.

1. Leave me one comment before midnight EST this Sunday the 23rd, telling me what YOU do to invest in yourself.
2. YOU can have a chance to enter twice. Write a blog post about this contest linking me and you can leave me another comment. Don't forget to add your post's url. The last winner of my shoe giveaway was a blogger whose 2nd comment was picked.
3. YOU do not have to be a blogger. Anyone can enter. I'm turning off anon comments so you must register with a AOL/wordpress/livejournal/google/blogger account.
4. I will announced the winner here, on Monday, along with the winner of my sled giveaway.

Smooches girlfriends and good luck. Invest in yourself! Thanks YOU.

Crocs that look like Uggs?

Now I am depressed.

What do I do to look after me? When I am feeling very meh, I skip work and sit on my fat butt eating chocolate.

No skinny jeans in my future huh?

Ehhh, what do I do for me...hmmm...I guess not much BUT get my hair done every 6 weeks. Thats like my most fave thing to do and maybe once a year I have a girls night out. :)
WOoHOooo!

Jolyn said...

I schedule a girls' night out ... with inspiring, motivating women! (Never mind something comes up half the time and we have to cancel...)

Sugar Jones said...

Oh my... I invest in myself, for sure. I don't mean just pedicures and clothing. Those fall under necessities of life for me. I mean investing in my future and making sure that little old 80 year old isn't eating kitty food just to survive. I have spent the last couple of years slowly building a photo business. Just this week, I was finally able to set up my studio. It's amazing how turning a hobby into a profit has changed my life, both financially and mentally.

Anonymous said...

Those are some kick ass boots!

Love them!

So, what do I do? Ummmmmmmmmm! Get me hair done, pedicures, read, schedule some girl's nights out with my best girls, eat chocolate, work out, SHOP!! Whatever I can squeeze in between the demands of family and work, really.

Rhea said...

I scheduled an appointment to see a therapist and went today. It's something I've been needing to do for a long time, for myself. I neglect myself badly, and I need to make myself a priority once again.

Heather said...

What do I do to invest in myself? *sigh* not enough. I do however take myself to my hair stylist every 5-6 weeks so she can keep my 'do shaped nicely and wax the brows for me.

Michelle said...

Well, Like most moms, I tend to neglect myself, but I really try to get out and have some me time! My friend and I did a half marathon last year! Talk about doing something great for yourself! Every 6 weeks, that same friend of mine schedule our hair appointments at the same time and then stay out all day! There are also times during the week, when one of us (or most of the time, both)is having a crappy day, so after the husbands come home and the kids are in bed, we take off and go do some window shopping with a Sonic drink or Starbucks. On Sundays, we do our grocery shopping together. Hey, it's the little things! You know the saying,"If momma ain't happy, then no ones happy!"

Anonymous said...

Those are simply GORGEOUS! I don't much care for Crocs and have never seen Ugg-alikes that I wanted, but you combine the two and WOWWIE!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh, and what would I do for me? I'd love to be able to take a vacation completely alone ... on a warm sandy beach ... with enough money to get a massage each time it came to mind. All while sipping on tasty fruity drinks.

Leigh said...

Oooh, so pretty!! :) I'll begin investing in my gym routine again once cold and flu season leaves. The kids are too sick for me to put them in gym daycare! Your skinny jeans rock, btw. :)

OhMommy - I don't invest $220 in anything these day so it's worth a shot.

The only investment I make in myself is to keep the chaos to a minimum at night so I can sneak in, kiss my kids good night before I curl up for a good night's sleep...because when I wake up, there's little time for me.

what do i do to invest in me? honestly? i take care of my children mostly. the money i earn from working for my dad...goes to my kids. but...i just applied for a brochure for baker college...to take computer classes...to finish my bachelors degree? dunno. but...that's how i'm PLANNING on investing in me!!

oh, sweet shoes. sweet, beautiful shoes that this momma needs more than air itself!

it's hard to "invest" in 'you' when you have 2 under 3 and the recession has hit home. but - i try to get a good night's sleep, enjoy the simple things in life, watch Top Chef and daydream about cooking like they do and have at least one good belly laugh a day (courtesy of my kiddos, no doubt)! cheesy - but, you've gotta work with what'cha got!

and as my husband says - a happy wife, a happy life...

It seems like for so long I haven't invested anything into my physical well-being because I was totally nourishing the mental well-being, what with my photography and writing. But, lately, I've been kicked in the gut and pretty much realized that I need to take care of the body that houses the mind. Without the care, the mind will wither. So, I'm investing in my physical fortitude. Slowly, one small step at a time. Slowly, one healthy morsel of food at a time. Slowly, on giant leap into a healthy lifestyle.

Ohhhhhh now those are pretty boots! I would look SO classy walking to pickup sweet Madeline from school in those books.
I am working on that whole "investing in me" thing. I have to decide when/where/what I want to do to lose these baby lbs. But it is gonna happen soon, because they aren't falling off with the "nothing to eat after dinner" plan. And I am NOT buying new clothes until I am down another size. BUT these boot will fit and they will class up my not so skinny leg jeans.

What do I do to invest in myself? You know it: same as you. Squat 155 lbs, deadlift 140 lbs, lunge 95lbs. It feels good to be strong(physically AND mentally). My next investment will be to assemble a decent wardrobe...but I need a stylist. Are you up for it?

Are those the Sweetheart Jeans? I love mine!

oh those boots are fab-u-lous! And they would be een more fabulous here in Alaska.

What do I do for me???? Hmm...I read. Sounds kind of simplistic...but reading does wonders for my mental well being. I also make sure I foster my relationship with my fabulous girl friends who support me (& I them) whne thhings get tough.

okay first I just want to say - Can I please have a copy of whatever cover letter you use to get all these companies to give you freebies????????????

Secondly, on to the giveaway - with three kids it is soooo hard to do anything for myself. So. blogging is for me - for my sanity.
But the one thing I will NEVER give up is getting my nails done! Every two weeks, me and my little Mai have a meet and greet with my nails! Love acrylic nails (very short though) and I will have them until I'm 99!!

Those boots are awesome!!! I've been looking for a fancy pair... to keep me warm in Texas?! lol.

Ohh laa laa - I would love those boots - I NEED boots!

Well, I have really started investing in me. On September 9 I started a weight management prgram at my local hospital - since then, I have lost 42 pounds - and counting! I am now taking time EVERY day to exercise - either going for walks, to my boot camp class or playing soccer - I have never felt better - nor have I ever committed this much to myself - nor, have I ever parented better. Yep, by looking after myself, I have been re-energized and I simply have a better attitude towards my three short-loud people.

I PROMISE to post about this contest tomorrow - it will fit right into my planned topic...though, gotta say, will not be encouraging people to enter the contest - since, I want to win.

LOVE your skinny jeans - you rock!!!!

investing in ME. hmmm. there's not a lot of that happening in my world, except for the occasional starbucks before work or the rare girls night out. investing in me means making sure the family is happy, and for now that's all i need. i'm sure i'll hit a point where that's not enough anymore-- because certainly, my own sexy boots are now five, six-ish years old and are no longer giving me that hot MILF look.

thanks for doing this!

Rachel said...

I love the boots and we're moving back to the midwest in two weeks so I need them! :)

To invest in myself:

I usually exercise, although I have been on a down cycle lately

I also get myself pedicures about once a month. When else can I just sit adn read a book?

Did you pre-read my post today about my winning streak? These are so mine.

I do a lot for myself. Facials, gym, leisurely fun sports, retail therapy AND I sleep well. Without letting anything else neglect, home, child and otherwise! But, alas, it is never enough because I WANT those boots!!

And daaaammmmnnn Gina. Your legs are looking killer in those skinny jeans, off to Old Navy for a pair of the Sweetheart.

I invest in myself with workouts at the gym, bike rides with my kiddos, and my nightly glass of vino.

Sadly, this list should really be much longer and roll off my tongue...alas. But, one thing I do for myself is run a non-profit on the side of mommydom. Keeps my sanity, keeps my mind moving past diapers but alas all happens during naptime, early morning and Curious George!

Quarantine Hobby said...

I wish my list were better. I don't do much for myself these days. Recently, I went clothes shopping and ::gasp:: bought things for myself (NOT my son)! It was truly wonderful. I do go to a nice salon for hair cuts and waxing, so that is something I do for myself.

Hope I win! Super cute!

What do I do for myself?

Alot, now that the kiddos are all in school full time. I do the boot camp thing too. I'm not any skinnier but my arms sure are looking buff these days.

Going out with some friends this Saturday from 9am till midnight for an entire day of scrapbooking. I do that every now and then for myself.

I could go on all day...I get lots of "me time".

I'll try to post about this later this afternoon and leave another comment...cuz those boots are hot.

What do I do to invest in me? I blog, I participate to social networks, I make new friends. This may seem like a given, but trust me, it isn't. When you are an expat, when you start life with a newborn in a new country for the second time in a few years, when you are looking after everybody else's needs and routines except yours and you are wiped out... it can take some effort to get yourself out there.
But if you do, you'll be rewarded. I made new friends, some that I'm sure I'll have for good; I feel better about myself, and I am happier with myself.

It's a workout for the soul :-)

*EEEK!*
I LOVE SHOES TOO! :)

Investing in yourself is a lot easier said than done. Isn't that surprising? The number one person in our life is the hardest to take care of!

Between being a senior fashion student (can you say hectic!?) to teaching fitness classes (I don't even get a good work out when I teach) to planning events for my sorority and then trying to be a good daughter, roommate and girlfriend, where is my "ME" time?

So I get up at 7 am 4-5 times a week to run. In the the freezing cold, rain, in sweltering hot, there is no excuse. No matter how tired I am, as I'm finishing the last stretch of that run, hot, sweaty, sore feet and sometimes ravenously hungry, I feel so so good and so thankful I am able to run and "treat" myself. (Talk about endorphin high!)

It's not shopping (now THAT I could 24hrs/7 days a week) or pampering, it's making the time to commit to habits that will hopefully "pay off" when I'm old and gray (well, I'll always be a brunette! :)

Yay for shoe giveaways!!

I don't do much for myself but I do want to start working out for my health. I also get my hair done once a quarter. Sometimes I go shopping by myself or grab a coffee at Starbucks.

Every now and then I may go out with a girlfriend for lunch or breakfast.

I know it is sad. We do need to invest more time in ourselves.

I'm excited and terrified all rolled into one, but yes, it's an investment that is well worth every ounce of energy and effort I put into it.

Hi Oh. What I do to invest in myself? I don't think it has to be monetary... I read books and go to bible study. I spend time with my girlfriends. It recharges me.

I invest in myself every Tuesday and Friday at African dance class... our instructor works. us. out. for an hour, and then, at the end, encourages us to wrap our arms around our bodies and give ourselves a hug and a pat on the back... because it's always available to us, even if no one else hugs us or gives us credit for all the things we do. It's a powerful moment. And makes me feel damn good.

So will those boots!

Bring it on, sis... bring it on.

I'm entering for my wife...I don't think they would fit me. :) To invest in myself? I'm teaching myself Japanese and learning what I need to know to get some more computer certifications. Hopefully in investing in myself, I can help my family.

Of course, being able to get a Nintendo Wii would be fun, too...

Hi, I'm Chelsea and I am addicted to shoes. Admitting you have a problem is the first step. Entering a give-away to win some free is the second step.

I think I could use those boots...it's snowing out today!

I started playing tennis again a couple of times a week to invest in myself. It's great fun, great exercise and I am totally focused when doing.

I think I need bootcamp next to shape up my "boot"

Anti-Supermom said...

Yep, I go to the gym for class 3-4 times a week (including Boot Camp, which my husband likes to call Booty Camp~).

I volunteer too, which seems like an oxymoron - but it gets me out of the house, with adults and it just makes me feel good :)

Tiffany said...

I like to walk. Just turn up my iPod loud, put on my running shoes, and go for a walk. It is surprisingly wasy to forget your troubles when you are walking. I am up to 4 miles, 3 times a week. I have even started to walk/jog/walk/jog, which is a big deal for a lifetime non-runner. I just wish the pounds came off a little faster!

wac4645 said...

Once a week I get together with a girlfriend and we try out new recipes and watch our shows! No husbands or boyfriends or people who judge.

Liz said...

Oh those are nice! It's good to invest in yourself! After all you are the one that does ALL the work! :) I have three girls and I always get caught up on THEM, THEM, THEM! But I take time every evening after they go to bed and I scrapbook, make cards and sew because I LOVE IT! :) It's my time... so that means I also get to do all the crafty shopping too~! :)

Jennifer said...

I plan a spa weekend twice a year where I head out to the beach with girlfriends and indulge in chatter, good food, and some amazing spa treatments... SO refreshing! I come back with twice the energy I left with!

Blessings From Above said...

What do I do to look after me? Once every couple months I kick the kids and my husband out of the house for a couple hours. I really do not do anything special while they are gone, except revel in the peace and quiet. There is something about getting time just to myself that "refreshes" me.

I puffy heart the boots!

AEH said...

WOO! Well, as you know I'm pregnant w/my first. I still indulge in massages - infact, now I get one every month (shhhhh.. insurance pays!). It's. The. Best. Thing. Ever!

Also, when I can find the time and extra funds, I go get a really nice spa pedicure (with baby safe nail polish, of course). I LOVE pedis. Infact, I think I might schedule one more before baby comes! :)

Heather said...

I love the boots! And I want your boot camp legs.

I take a trip to Austin to visit my favorite hair stylist. Yes, that is a three hour drive, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

The Gerster Family said...

check you out, Ms. Skinny Jeans!

no one would want to see me in those just yet.

Ok. For myself, I usually do something creative. Something that allows me to forget about the noises of the world and totally submerge into the creative areas of my mind. But, since I'm totally concerned about the pudge around the edges, I do like to go work out, or hike or just take walks with my precious hubby

CC said...

Oh my gosh!!!!!!!! Those cost more than almost all the furniture in my house!

I LOVE them!!!!!!!!

Ashley said...

Oh my goodness - thank you to Leslie for posting about this giveaway. First - so that I could find your totally awesome blog. And second - so that I have a chance to win these amazing boots. I actually think they already have my name written on them. You may want to check that out. Do you see it? Anywhere? Because they are totally calling out to me!!

Oh - so I have to tell you how I invest in myself. I have a (small) chunk of my paycheck that goes directly into an account set aside totally for me so that I can buy whatever I see fit for our new house we are planning to build in a few years. Sounds lame - but not so lame when I see the numbers going up and think about what I'll be buying on my shopping spree. I see everyone invests in their hair about every 6 weeks... I think I need to up my investments in that area. Ha!

Ooooh I love these!!

What am I doing for me?

Standing up for myself. I'm demanding a change in my life or I'm making a whole different change.

And yes, I know that's kind of cryptic sounding, but I alluded to it a bit in the post "cycles"

and one of the last Dear You letters.

Hmmmmmm, for some odd reason this all brings up vague and dimly remembered promises made regarding bikini's and new years or something like that.

However I have OFTEN been told my memory is far good for my own good. Yet, I am having these distant yet vivid memories of counters and such??? Oh well, it's probably all just like the memories of my alter boy days that every one always tells me were just dreams.

Silly brain! Where do you get these idea?

Anonymous said...

Girl, you are looking good! Glad you pressed on and did it. Very impressive.

I try to (at least once a week) get away from the house, by myself, to do whatever I want for at least two to three hours. I usually go browsing, shopping, lunch with a friend, or a movie. I come back refreshed and so ready to be with my family again.

What do I do for me? I paint my nails and toes and I curl my hair. My hair is very straight and I take the time each morning to curl it - about an hour and a half. Some people laugh at me. But I love my curls. They make me feel feminine. Same with my nails and toes.
I don't always lotion myself like I should, I can't always fit exercise in, and I don't do my whole makeup removal regimine. But I do curl my hair. :)

After the kids are in bed, that is my time to enjoy! Sometimes I watch TV or a DVD, read blogs or magazines or books, sometimes I do something crafty. I just use that time to do something I enjoy while the house is nice and quiet.

OOH - I need to win those! What do I do to invest in me? I get my nails done every few weeks, (even my toes in the summer) and I get my hair trimmed and highlighted regularly. Oh, and I bought a new car tonight! YIKES! (I was due - my van was 13 years old and falling apart) LOVE those boots, my fingers are crossed.

OhMommy - Style runs in the family, you and Kash are just exuding class and so are these boots. I was actually inspired when I read you were doing boot camp and decided for my 28th birthday I would treat myself to the same. So for 8 weeks I have been rising at 5am three days a week. Up next - a weights class, the Bar Method. Taking care of myself is my treat.

After I put my daughter to sleep, I treat myself to one serving (2pts!) of Weight Watchers ice cream while snuggled up under a blanket with my book of the week! I watch a lot of TV, that is how I invest in myself. Blogging has also become my new thing. I am just addicted to both hobbies. Can't really afford anything cool, so I do it the cheep way. That is okay with me. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Sex and The City shoes.

Invest in myself? Hummm?
Well I love to color my hair when I am down. So I make sure to buy bold color then. I love coffee and always have my morning cup with a yummy creamer. That is me time! Good food with Good friends and family. That is always a celebration to me. Time every night so I can curl up and read. Makes me dream so easy. Love it.
And those boots would do it too. Texas may not be cold to some. But my heater does not work well and my toes are so cold. I would wear them all the time to keep me warm. Warm my feet--warm all of me! Help me win!

jujuhambrick said...

I do get my hair & nails done and I do consider that an investment in myself. However, I have never had a pair of Crocs. My feet are too big to wear Crocs and I don't need anything to make them look bigger. I thought the only shoe Crocs made are the cute ones that my granddaughters wear. Who knew they made some great looking boots and shoes? I would love to have a great looking pair like those CLASSY looking boots, since everyone says they are so comfy. I am all for comfort this day and time and fashion!

I'm posting to enter my wife. She has been relentless in getting back into shape after having our little kiddo (who is beautiful but I'm bragging like a proud Papa).

She's goes to the local YMCA all week after work, bringing our daughter along too, who enjoys going as well.

She does the Body Pump, and Body Step classes all week long and runs on the treadmill and recently completed her first 5k race in the Susan G. Kommen "Race for the Cure" to prevent breast cancer.

Dude, she's never run before and I'm so proud of her accomplishment that I'm going to start running also.

I'm dying for these boots. I mean, seriously! Too freaking cute.

Okay, so I'm with you. I have to set aside time for myself. If I don't, I would be the worst mom ever.

I do get my hair done ever 8 weeks, and I love it. I also make time every day, at least 5 days a week to work out. Either I drag my butt to the gym or I do something at home. It's such a release, and it makes me feel healthy.

I also blog. I write. And that is so totally for me!!!
